KLM Flying Dutchman - Upgrade using FB miles

Hi,

I have a return economy class ticket (AMS to Berlin TXL) - class N on the outbound and Class E on the inbound for Sept.
I have accumulated some FB miles now and am wondering if anyone on this forum knows how many miles would be needed to upgrade my ticket to business class? Or perhaps class N and E aren't eligible to upgrades?

If yes, can I do this at the airport when I check-in? or by phoning FB?

I usually do online check-in and I do know that they allow upgrades by credit payment via online check-in (depending on the availability of C class).
But I don't think they actually allow upgrade with miles payment.

E and N are in the same non-upgradeable group as you will see from the table in the link above.

If it were upgradeable, why would you want to? It is a 1 hour flight in an Embraer 170 or 190. This means that the only thing you would be doing would be giving miles away in order to have the seat next to you empty. No extra service and no extra legroom. Kind of an expensive way to use miles. You can always just give them to me and you will get about the same increase in service :D

Now, using them to pay for an emergency exit seat might be slightly better than just giving them to me, but only just.

On the E190 (KLM does not have the E170) they do not even book the seat in Europe Business Class.

I agree, there are more useful things to use your miles for than on a one hour flight:)

I am aware that the business class product of KLM within europe is nothing special (apart from being served a better meal/snack on board).
The reason for me to consider doing an upgrade is because I have accumulated some miles over the years and since I have no plans to have any long haul travel in the near future, so I thought it may be possible to give myself a treat and upgrade myself to business. Anyway, since the classes on my bookings are not valid for upgrade, I can just forget about it. :)

Hi chinhk, you might wish to read the previous 2 replies again. You would not have gotten better food. KL does not offer Business on all European routes.

Interesting, I was under the impression all upgrade availability came out of the O bucket.

I don't think that: in red are (probably) new booking classes (BC)after last changes and in black BC with no change

This reminds me of the old PMNW system where upgrades from full Y and IIRC B booked into a more generous inventory class than upgrades into WBC from M fares.

I do not think so. The number of miles earned always depends on the original booking class before the upgrades. So IIRC the percentages for Economy, it's 100% for Y B M and 75% for U.
