Air France Frequence Plus - Guest lounge access w/ J passenger at IAD?

Hello all. I apologize if this question has been addressed already, but I could not find an answer.

I will be departing in AF J from IAD. My wife will be leaving on UA (Y) to LHR at the same time (both flights 10:00 p.m.).

As a J passenger on AF, is there any chance that my wife could join me in the AF lounge as a guest (either for free or for $$)? I understand that UA flights depart from a different terminal from AF, but we might both arrive at the airport early enough to spend a couple of hours in the lounge.

Thank you.

Nope, especially not a guest who is not flying Skyteam.

Cheers,

There isn't any guest rule applicable here. I don't think they'll do that.

Thanks. I found the relevant information here (http://www.delta.com/traveling_checkin/airport_information/delta_sky_club/sky_club_locations/index.jsp) on the DL site as well:

Number of guests permitted when accessing a Delta Sky Club:
Membership Level or Customer Category: Number of Guests

Delta Sky Club members: Two, or spouse or domestic partner and children under 21
Transcontinental First Class Passenger: None
Delta BusinessElite or SkyTeam Premium Cabin Passenger: None
Delta Reserve Credit Cardmember: Two
SkyTeam Elite Plus (Delta Diamond, Platinum, or Gold Medallion): One
One-day pass holder: None
30-day membership: Two, or spouse or domestic partner and children under 21

Family and guest access to partner lounges varies depending on the rules of the partner operating the lounge. In some partner locations, the purchase of a single visit pass for guests may be possible.

Evidently, having a DL SkyClub day pass is insufficient to gain access to the AF lounge at IAD; however, having a DL SkyClub 30-day membership ($90) is sufficient to access this lounge and allows two guests.

I have a handful of SkyClub passes. I might see if the lounge dragon is willing 1) to let her in as a gesture; 2) to accept the single-use DL pass; or 3) to allow me to pay the fee that they would charge an AF elite for excess guests. If this fails and if we have a lot of time, I might get the $90 pass as I have some use for it myself later in the month.

Any other input appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure you can get into the AF lounge with the sky club pass? Is it not just the dl one? As others my guess is they'll say know to all you are asking. Lounge often gets very crowded so little reason to let people in who are not entitled to.

Yes, the link I referenced above states clearly that SkyClub Members, including holders of the 30-day membership, have access to the IAD terminal B Air France lounge, with guest privileges.

We're leaving at 10:00 p.m. on a Friday night - is the lounge generally crowded even on the weekend?

Ah yes, I see it although it does say 'on a space available basis'. I can't tell you which days I was in there but have always found it rather crowded including in summer (which is usually 'lighter' business loads in many places). It is, incidentally, nothing to write home about and I certainly wouldn't personally invest in a sky club card to get in there even if access was guaranteed.

Currently posting from the AF lounge here at IAD. The lounge attendant simply asked me if I was bringing her as my guest. I said yes. She asked what airline, and I said United. She hesitated, then said okay.

This is odd because the policies are no guest for J pax and 1 guest (irrespective of their traveling airline) for F pax. Apparently this lounge attendant was applying a rule that would entitle me (J) to a guest as long as she was flying the right airline, presumably AF/KL or SkyTeam.

In any case, the lounge has about half as many people as could fit before it got crowded. We board in 90 minutes or so, so it might approach that level before too long. Decent food spread, definitely an improvement (for her) over the United lounge.

Good for you! I am surprised she let you bring a guest.
