i would like to get a point and shoot to replace the fz18. we have used it for a couple -5000 images. we tend to use it at higher zoom and do use the zoom. i want a p&s. want better optics. we have other canons and a ton of lenses. want a nice lite weight as do better with the p&s for birds and butterflys close up. also want it for a travel camera.

would consider a fixed focus, but would have to be 2-300 mm, i think.

would like to stay under $1000, unless there is something that is exactly the right thing.

We had a DMC-FZ20K and when we lost it in Sydney, didn't think twice before buying the latest DMC-FZ model at that time - DMC-FZ35K. Been very happy with it.
