Hyatt Gold Passport - Any feedback on points for dining?

If you've earned or spent points for dining in the new program, thumbs up or thumbs down?

Do restaurants quickly and reliably post points?

How does spending points work -- do you just write in your GP account number and they take some number of points per dollar including tip? I'm assuming it's not a particularly good value, but hoarding points is overall a bad bet.

Good question - and one that would be of interest especially the earning points side.

The program is up and running at the Grand Hyatt DFW.. I've earned points dinning there, it's a lot nicer than hanging in the Admirals Club, better drinks and awesome menu, easy access back into the terminal via TSA Precheck at gate 30, points have posted with in 48 hours.

Just wanted to see if anyone else has had experiences with getting points for dining when not staying at the hotel.

I dined at the Andaz Wall Street a few weeks ago, and though I provided my GP number to the server at the end of the meal (there is a place at the bottom of the receipt to write in your GP number), the points never posted.

I did keep my receipt as a record, however, unfortunately, it appears that if points don't post, GP wants us to follow up directly with the restaurant rather that going through GP. (There's actually a notation to that effect on the web site under the link one would usually use to request points for a missing stay.) Frankly, that seems like GP is simply washing their hands of providing any support for this benefit when points don't post. A better solution would be to offer us the opportunity to go through GP by filling out a form and attaching a scanned receipt.

Great -- thank you. So these should count towards lifetime diamond then.

I had a TravelZoo certificate worth $45 for dining at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. Spouse and I visited the restaurant on Sunday night and presented the certificate. I also presented my Hyatt Diamond card and requested that we earn points for dining. Server said this was no problem as they had seen a lot of certificates and they've also seen a lot of Hyatt cards from people who want to earn points from dining.

Total bill was approx. $47. Server said that because Travelzoo certificate was $45 and the bill was $47, they would just comp the $2 balance. I asked if they could bring me a bill anyway so I could charge the tip. Server said they cannot accept a charged tip on a zero bill. I left a $10 tip in cash. I did receive a receipt (which alas I did not keep) showing approx $47 in charges, the same amount paid, and zero balance due.

Imagine my shock and surprise when I checked my account the next day. I discovered that the restaurant had removed TWELVE THOUSAND POINTS from my account!

I phoned Hyatt Gold Passport. They said the only way to straighten out the mistake is to contact the restaurant.

I hate to be a pessimist but I'm not expecting a happy ending (as I did not retain the receipt). Has anyone else had a similar experience, hopefully with a happy ending?

Experimented with the dining at O'Hare this past weekend and noticed points were only received for food, not wine. Found below in the T&Cs:

3. Five Hyatt Gold Passport points will be awarded for each whole U.S. dollar or U.S. dollar equivalent, paid by a member for Eligible Non-Stay Charges. "Eligible Non-Stay Charges" vary on a hotel-by-hotel basis, but generally include spa and salon services, spa and salon retail items, one (1) day spa membership and food and beverage expenditures (except at outlets not operated by the hotel). Hyatt Gold Passport points will not be awarded on alcoholic beverage purchases in certain jurisdictions.

Anyone know of a list of where are these "certain jursidictions"?

There is no list, but according to GPC in the Hyatt FAQs thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/19538826-post204.html) it's.... everywhere.

And I wonder if this is a recent change, noticed on my bar bill at PH Hamburg last week the alcohol split from the food with some notes about 'point earning eligibility' - too tired to think about implications, but does this mean that alcohol no longer earns points anywhere?

I contacted the hotel from their page on Hyatt.com and explained the problem. The mistake was fixed within just a few hours. Except for a momentary scare when I discovered the error, all is now well.I had a TravelZoo certificate worth $45 for dining at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. I had a similar problem at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. I was concerned I would be in for an uphill battle, but alas it was fixed in two short phone calls. No receipt on my end necessary, they were happy to charge the card and return my points.

I wouldn't normally use points for dining, but glad that they had their act together when a problem was encountered.

I recently had a glass of wine at a Hyatt. I noticed that the receipt said that I would get GP points only for the state alcohol tax. Very curious.

Thats what it seems to imply, though maybe there is a possibility that an individual property can make their own decision?

curious and counter-intuitive -- the wine is "marked up" so they actually make a profit. The taxes are pass-through (no profit) and generally don't receive any points.

does anyone know if the Andaz 5th avenue or Hyatt 48 Lex is participating in the points program?

Also, do Diamonds get 15 percent off their restaurant bill?

I'll be staying at both properties in the next couple weeks and would love to know if it is worth it to dine if in a pinch.

I believe yes. I only saw a couple in the US that were not participating now. I didn't get 15% off my recent dining bill so if thats true, missed opportunity here. Had not seen that.

Actually not seeing Hyatt 48 Lex on the list, but Andaz 5th Avenue is. Full list at the following link:
