American Express Membership Rewards - Applied UK SPG but unsuccessful, had my gold for a week.

I just had a gold charge for a week.
Today I saw there's 20k star points offer on my amex online and applied, but i was unsuccessful :(
Called new account they told me the reason was my internal score was low.
Is it gonna affect my charge card account?
Should I appeal?? They did a hard pull on my credit file, just checked on credit expert.
Someone experienced please give me some advise!! Thanks a lot in advance.

In my experience with AMEX (Canadian, but should be similar), no, this will have no effect on your Gold charge card since you already have it. I can confirm they do a hard check for each application, they don't re-use a check made on a previous application.

The issue most likely is that your credit score only qualifies you for one card at a time, which is why they denied the second card. If you'd applied for the SPG first, then it would have been your Gold application that was denied.

This is just an assumption on my part, but follows how I've seen AMEX work.

It is unlikely they will close the Gold card, unless your credit report contains substantially different information than it did when you applied for it, but your spending limit may be lower than you anticipate. Charge cards have "no preset spending limit" which gives American Express great flexibility to adjust their exposure based on everything they know about your income, assets, debts and credit rating. Don't spend more than you will be able to repay, in full, on demand.

Wait, if you are already an AMEX card member, shouldn't subsequent denials be a soft pull instead of a hard pull? A hard pull should've only been done if you were approved...Right?

It was definitely a hard pull, as I checked my credit expert report.
And I've call Amex new account team, they told me it was unsuccessful application due to low internal score :(
