Now Southwest is putting out the big guns and going after F9's home base. Unfortunately they don't match the miles this time though but I assume that would cost them too much :D

From what I've heard, Southwest peeved Denver customers by offering something to the Wisconsin-based flyers but not the Colorado ones. So now they are across the board comping Colorado Frontier elites with status. But of course no points-for-miles match...yet.

This saga is getting more amusing by the minute.

In spite of some thinking that the original offer was a swipe at Frontier, it really was a swipe at Delta. Some (including possibly some of the bigger egos involved) may have viewed it as a swipe at Frontier, but Frontier isn't looking to retain those Wisconsin customers. The real affect is not letting Delta get as much of a grip on them.

But now Southwest customers in Denver as unhappy that Wisconsin is getting all the love, and so Colorado Frontier elites are being comped status. This does aim at placating Colorado flyers (although it's certainly not the miles match) and it definitely does aim at Frontier flyers. Pretty soon the whole world will be elite, no?

Does anyone know how readily WN comps competitor status outside of this offer?

LOL...when I started my post nobody had posted anything yet, but it was nearly an hour of inturruptions here at work until I finished it. And what were those inturruptions mostly about? People here at work asking advice on the Southwest match / Delta transfer. Sometimes it's not good being the airline guy here....

Excellent question. Have you checked out the WN forum on this topic? We wouldn't consider it cross posting to reference non-F9 threads here if it's pertinent.

No worries. One of the dupe topics was stuck in the moderator queue, which is why nobody else saw it, and on a big deal like this it is inevitable that more than one will report it. Your insight into the hows and whys of this latest status match is especially useful. ^

Quote from the WN offer:

Frontier, Frontier Express, and EarlyReturns are among trademarks and/or service marks owned by Frontier Airlines, Inc. Frontier Airlines, Inc. is in no way affiliated with Southwest Airlines or this program and does not endorse this program or any other Southwest Airlines product or service.

Sometimes, legalese is really funny.

WN generally does not comp status from other airlines.

Complimentary upgrades into Air Tran Biz Class is a big deal, as well as automatic upgrades on B-class fares. I'll have to check out their schedule from DEN.

As far as A-List on Southwest, it doesn't get me excited at all.

Get it while it lasts....currently there are nonstops to Atlanta, LaGuardia, Akron and Dayton, plus Cancun a few days per week. Denver-Milwaukee has already switched to all-Southwest, and by 8/12 LGA, DAY and CAK are also Southwest. At that point you get a few flights to Atlanta plus Cancun.

I feel pretty similar here in Milwaukee. By later this fall all the business class seats are gone except for ATL, DCA and a few Florida flights, so the upgrade benefit is sadly thin.

Get it while it lasts...Thanks for the heads up! I noticed that too.

I should make Summit on my next trip after the 4th of July holiday. So, I may take advantage of that AirTran flight to Dayton later in the month, before it switches over to Southwest metal. The occasional trip to Atlanta will be more comfortable too.

Nothing Southwest gets me that excited.

I have to go ATL to FLL next week and I was going to take AirTran instead of Delta just for the ride on the 717. Because of this move in Denver aimed at Frontier, I booked Delta.

Quick turnaround. My girlfriend sent them the information Sunday and they matched her on Monday morning.
