Hi there, just popping across from the BA forum as I'm flying CX from HK to Jakarta and back in economy. I'm on the CX0719 flight on 19/9 and the CX0798 on 22/9.

I'm a BA Gold card holder and I'm trying to select my seats, but it seems that all the exit rows in economy are blocked off. Is there any way to get these unblocked, or is this normal practice in CX to allow them to be sold later on to other passengers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and any other tips for these quite long flights (any suggeted seats) seeming as I'm flying business to HK and back ;)

I just booked my first trip on CX yesterday, so I can't comment on how normal it is, but I also saw all exit rows blocked. I called them up, they verified I was oneworld sapphire (through AA), and they confirmed exit row seats for me.

Too bad I couldn't do it online, but it wasn't difficult.

Thanks for your reply - I presume you called Cathay Pacific to check this? Also, did you book direct with them - just asking because I booked it as part of a tour with BA flights with an agent and not sure if they'd sort seating queries for me.

Woul be interested to see if anyone can confirm if exit row blocking is normal or not.

After the system migration in February, it has now become a standard practice. However, as BA Gold, you should be able to get it selected by calling your local CX reservation, if a TKT has been issued. Refer to Disservice to frequent fliers by not allowing us to pre-select emergency row seats (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cathay-pacific-asia-miles/1358803-disservice-frequent-fliers-not-allowing-us-pre-select-emergency-row-seats.html).
