Flying through Charlotte every week, the US C/D club used to be my favorite place to get out of the CLT airport madness.
About 6 months ago they decided to start using it as an international departure lounge, and seemingly allow all sorts of other random people as well.
Now it has sunk to a new level of crowding, noise and general filth. Frequent, LOUD, announcements about international departures (even in the 'quiet room'). Clueless desk agents. Long lines for drinks in the bar. Kids running around, crawling on the floor. Lines to use the damn bathroom.
I really hope this is something temporary that will be fixed somehow when the new construction is done on the terminal. I'll hang out in the B club until then I guess, though I bet that gets pretty crowded soon as more refuges from C/D madness move there.

Add to your list:
Only plastic "soup" spoons and no soup bowls.
No respect for the quiet room (the last two times i have been in there people were on their phones).
Only 1 bartender working at peak times.

ok, I'm revising my remarks.
I'm in the 'B' club now and it's delightful. Not too crowded. Friendly bartender - didn't grimace when I asked to change the channel (and cute as a bonus!). New soup, pretty good change. Gals at front desk got me on an earlier flight.
How did all the 'good' people get down here? Strange, but pleasant surprise!

Sounds like a quiet day at a DL Sky Club!

yeah i've been rather taken back the past two times i've been. ***hats moving furniture to huddle up in a circle blocking an entire pathway and talking loudly, overcrowding for as large as it is, the bar, etc...

Lately, I've enjoyed the green/black canned olives they put out. I was wondering if they just ran out of the marinated olives, or if they are just cutting costs. hahaha. Honestly, I have seen pretty bad when I am usually there between 7-9:30am, or around 5-6pm. I also keep to the quiet room though. But at those times, its not that many of the ***hats, luckily.

I've never noticed one....How long ago did they switch that from the smoking area to the quiet room?

Quiet room has been the best place for me...I have experienced no violators ;)
I was there yesterday (6/28) and I would describe the smell as VERY faint...I'd put it at less than 5%. I got over it in about 10 seconds and enjoyed my time there.

Hmm I was there earlier this month and it was empty. Maybe because I was there from 8:30-10 AM on a Sunday? Seemed fine to me though, quiet room was respected, no lines for the bathroom and quick service at the bar.

Sad to hear and hope it is temporary especially with regards to the quiet room as that place has always been like a library when I have been in there and much appreciated!

I am based in CLT. Unfortunately the lounges have gotten a lot busier. The C/D has always been the "international" lounge since the D closed a long time ago. It has gotten unbearable on weekdays after 3:30 when people start showing up for all the Europe red eye flights.
I am not sure how the construction will help. There is a need for another (dedicated) international lounge.
But, as someone mentioned, still 100% better than the Delta ultra packed lounges in Atlanta.

Hmmm. I have an envoy flight to CDG with a 5 hour layover in CLT. Should I hang in the B or C/D lounge? Thanks.

I'd rather have a lounge in E. Isn't that the darned truth! E Concourse is so far away from the two Clubs, you have to leave 30 minutes before your flight to walk down there. It would be great to have even a small Club area in E in which to wait for the express planes!

You can do both, but you will get a voucher for hard booze only at C/D (unless something charged). In the old days when wine/beer was chargeable, they used to send folks from B to C/D for TATL flights, but I cannot imagine they would stop you from using both lounges. B club is quieter.

You are probably right, E needs it most. However, I would think it would need to be a relatively large club given the frequency and number of flights. But, again, I agree, probably needed.

If Parker was so cheap and unclassy to close the PHL Envoy Lounge, he isn't likely to pay for a dedicated International Lounge in CLT, where there is essentially zero international competition and far fewer flights.

I've been in the C/D lounge before a TATL departure several times this year, and thought it was just fine both times.

The Club needs a cell phone room. Admittedly, the cell phone yakkers today and yesterday were using the work carrels, but they stood at the entrance, so their conversations were loud, even in the sitting areas. I never understood the need to have extended cell phone conversations about non-urgent topics in public places.

When do the soup and olives get put out? We have a 4.40pm departure to CDG, but I have a feeling US does not put out soup until later...does anyone know the schedule?

I think they do the turnover to lunch at 11. They should still have breakfast snacks out right now.

Soup is part of the lunch? I thought it just came out for 2-3 hours during the international push in the evening. At least, that's how it is in PHL.

Personally I enjoy all of the US clubs. Have you ever been to a United RC club? The worst... Overcrowded, hot and loud. This has been exactly my experience in DEN, MCO, ORD & EWR.

But when no US club is available, any port in a storm. Props, by the way, to the UA club at HNL.

Up till about 3 or 4 months ago, the soup and olive trays would appear around 5:00PM, yet I have since notice that they are available as early as 3:30PM in C concourse lounge.

Given this is USAIR's busiest hub, you would really think they would have an international lounge and 1-2 more clubs.

It is somewhat surprising, isn't it? DCA has 237 daily departures, has 2 clubs; PHX has 287 daily departures, has 3 clubs; PHL with 453 daily departures has 3 (once F reopens); yet CLT with over 630 departures only has 2!

Squarefootage wise, I'd guess CLT occupies the most space.

You mean the clubs in CLT occupy the most space? I completely disagree. The PHL B/C club is close in size to CLT C/D, and the former Envoy lounge is just massive. PHL by far has the most club real estate (especially when the F club re-opens).
