Any ideas for good hotels to stay in Mendoza area. Not Park Hyatt Mendoza and not in the city but around the vineyards.
I was reading about Cavas wine lodge but seems a little boring,,,

My wife and I stayed at Casa Glabinas. Amazing place. The villas a very nice and they bring you a fantastic assortment of fresh breads and jams every morning. They can also arrange and recommend some very nice vineyard tours.
Very reasonable as well.

We stayed at the Park Hyatt (which is fine) and went for lunch at Cavas Wine Lodge. I didn't see the rooms, but the setting, with views over the vineyards and the Andes, is idyllic.

Try Club Tapiz. Very nice, excellent restaurant and in the middle of the vineyards. Just google it and you should find it.

Really enjoyed a stay at Entre Cielos earlier in the year.
Very nice property.

We had a wonderful lunch a few years ago at the Zuccardi winery, about 30 km out of town along the road to San Luis. Don't recall now whether they have any overnight accommodations available, but it's worth a drive out there just for the lunch, no question about it!

Obscure2k: Thank you for suggestion but the Argentina forum is full of very old information, from 2006 and 2007. Without sounding too much of a jerk here, I wanted to post my thread under the luxury hotel forum to get opinions from fellow travelers about luxury hotels in that region.

I think its more an issue of not taking time to read... so perhaps you are lazy rather than a jerk...? ;) Many threads go back a good number of years, yes, but most of them also have plenty of updated information.
Congratulations on not wanting to stay at a Chain Hotel. For nice accomodations that are out of the ordinary, I suggest you do your homework on these places....
Lares de Chacra
Vistalba Carlos Pulenta
Posada Salentein
Postales del Plata
Regardless, feel free to post new threads on the Argentina Forum and the resident experts will be happy to assist you.
Cheers,

I've heard that the Ambassador isn't too bad and has lived in Argentina for a long time, despite not being a native.

I agree... for an old drunk from the British Isles, he is quite OK... :D

There is more to the question than is obvious. I have stayed at Cavas Vinas Lodge. The owner was delightfule. The food was mediocre. The rooms and setting were splendid, but it's all like having a girlfriend who lives 50 miles out of town. Inconvenient to see her. We came to visit the vineyards which were arduous trips by car from the lodge. We vowed that notwithstanding that it is a chain hotel, the Park Hyatt would have enabled us to see a lot more than is the case being in the boonies.

Not so fast.... the devil is in the details. Close to where exactly..... if you will only want to visit the Bodegas close to the City then perhaps the Hyatt is good, but in Mendoza, you will have to travel distances if you want to visit the right producers. The Uco Valley is going to be far from some places in Maipu, so there is no one perfect location. The best way to do this is to stay at least 2 nights at a Uco Valley location and stay in or close to town (Chacras de Coria is a good option) for some of your other visits.

^I just came across this thread and speaking of Mendoza, I booked a trip to Mendoza earlier this year, I had a nice stay at the Esplendor Mendoza hotel
http://www.esplendormendoza.com/en/
(http://www.esplendormendoza.com/en/)This hotel is awesome, staff is friendly and accomodating but I must add it is not located in Mendoza city but Maipu (a few miles away), so you might need a rental car, or to take a cab or -as it happened in my case- I booked tours and transportation with Huentata http://www.huentata.com.ar/index.php?lang=en which excelled my expectations.
Well, and on a side note I flown EZE-MDZ and MDZ-AEP on those Embraer by Austral (Aerolineas Argentinas), pretty good indeed (but I'm partial here, my experience in the air with Aerolineas/Austral has been generally positive :)
