Hi all. new to the forum but was wondering if you could give me some advice.

I have almost 25k miles at the moment in my Mileage Plus card from Continental (now United). Now, since I opened this account I have permanently moved to the UK and fly home (Col) about once a year either with United or Lufthansa. Now, when I fly on business I usually fly Skyteam (AF/KLM) or Oneworld (BA) but in a couple of weeks I'll be travelling Business Class to Nigeria with Lufthansa and the week after I'll be flying back to Col with Lufthansa again.

With my current residence it is likely that any redemption of miles will be for a European flight (i.e. Lufthansa, not Continental). With that in mind, should I continue accumulating miles in my current Mileage plus or should I enrol with Lufthansa's Miles / more before going on these trips?

Thanks in advance for the help!

If you fly enough miles/km per year to earn status, credit to the airline/alliance you expect to fly the most, as status can make it all a little easier.

If not, and/or you'd like to visit the US someday soon, MileagePlus miles are a good value for getting across the Pond. Thus you may want to keep accumulating there until you have enough for such a ticket.

Unless you have status with LH or have an LH credit card, your miles will expire in three years regardless of activity. LH also has very high fuel surcharges. On the plus side. LH usually as good award availability and some discounts on close-in European flights (two weeks or less)--with savings of 40%. LH's other plus is better earnings on paid biz (J C D) at 200%.

Go for the carrier on which you will accrue the most qualifying miles to earn status and be able to redeem those rewards!

Hi all. thanks for the re0ply and apologies for the delay replying but itīs been quite hectic in the past few months. Thinking about it a bit more carefully I guess it all boils down to two issues:

1. Will I earn the same amount of miles having MP and flying Lufthansa than flying LH and having M&M

2. Will I be able to use my MP miles to redeem flights or benefits with Lufthansa

Thanks again for the help.
