As regular LGW user this is great news ;) Just received this per email and wonder will they still use the same gate in LGW? I dont think its ready for the A380?

To celebrate 25 years of Emirates flying from the UK, you will see the Emirates A380 touch down at London Gatwick on the 6th July, making history as the first ever A380 service to fly from London Gatwick.

The Emirates A380 will operate flight EK016 from Gatwick to Dubai departing at 15:30, and EK015 from Dubai to Gatwick which arrives earlier in the day at 12:30.

Emirates first flew from the UK on 6th July 1987, with a daily service from Gatwick to Dubai, its 10th destination. Today, you can choose from 16 daily flights from six UK airports to Dubai and beyond – connecting to a network of over 120 destinations worldwide.

The A380 will fly one of Emirates’ three daily services from the airport, enabling passengers to experience the world-renowned amenities on board the aircraft. These include the world’s first onboard Shower Spas in First Class, and an inflight entertainment system throughout the aircraft with over 1,200 channels on demand.

After 11 years living in Dubai my cousin and her family left the land of the desert skyscrapers today for a new life on Vancouver Island, Canada. Little did they know when they booked their flights to LGW for a two week UK stopover en route to their new life that they had unwittingly booked themselves seats on this very flight!

Very fitting that their arrival at LGW was met with a water cannon salute, creating a fun start to their new beginnings. On top of that, their arrival was captured on film and posted on youtube by Gatwick's marketing department. The moment when the Whale's rubber met tarmac and churned up clouds of smoke was significant not only for EK, but also for my dear cousin!

At the moment there is no stand suitable for the A380. LGW is seeking planning permission to reconfigure some existing stands: http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/london-gatwick-confident-on-approval-for-a380-plans-369332/
