Chile's LAN and Brazil's TAM have "merged" to form LATAM Airlines group (http://www.lan.com/en_au/sitio_personas/news/official-press-release/lan-and-tam-complete-their-transaction-and-create-latam-airlines-group).
Speculation elsewhere that TAM will leave Star and join oneWorld but there's currently nothing on the LAN or OW websites and the announcement only talks of reciprocal rights between the two carriers' schemes.

As has been mentioned multiple times in other threads, TAM is leaving Star. They are legally required to as a condition of the merger.
LATAM has a choice to either bring TAM into Oneworld or leave it as an independent carrier, they are still deciding although TAM will more then likely end up joining Oneworld..

TAM is not leaving Star yet, there was no announcement with timelines etc. I think they will ultimately leave Star (I guess this is why Avianca, TACA and Copa joined Star last week), but it will not be an immediate process. For now Star is making concessions to Chilean authorities by not accepting Avianca Brazil to the alliance yet.

Though this article uses TAM's Chairman as the source in saying they are leaving Star.

Am flying TAM in Brazil next month - domestic flight from Rio to Iguazzu. Will I be able to get points/SCs on TAM with QFF or will I have to throw them toward Air NZ Airmiles?

It hs been many years since they were called airmiles, Airpoints Dollars now and they are pretty much worthless.
As TAM has not even announced they are joining OW let alone joined OW the answer to your question is to credit to a Star Alliance programme not QFF

At least flying Rio to Iguazu I'll get $25 Airpoints Dollars for < 2 hr flight. A lot better than the $10 Airpoints Dollars I earn flying over the NZ/Aus ditch on a 4 hr flight lol
