US Airways Dividend Miles - Question about upgrading with miles and copays

I am planning a trip with 2 buddies for a Vegas weekend this fall. As a lowly Silver, I am planning to use miles to upgrade all 3 of us for our transcon leg, either PIT-PHX or CLT-LAS. I know as a Preferred I won't have to pay a copayment for myself if I use miles. However, if I book my 2 friends on the same PNR, will I have to pay the copayment for them? Obviously, they have no status. Thanks.

I believe that copayment is due from each non-status flyer, even on same PNR as yours, because there's no explicit waiver granted by the rules (like that for checked bags).

If the miles are coming out of your account, then there is no co-pay for your friends. I just upgraded a non-preferred person's ticket from my mileage account without a co-pay the other day. I'm currently Gold, but I was doing this when I was Silver, as well.

Thanks, that's good to know. I stand corrected.

I upgraded my non-status parents with no copayment. I wasn't flying with them either. It was just after the change, the agent never brought it up. Neither did i.
