I am surprised Airbus that they will have A320 factory in Alabama. This will be first Airbus factory in US.

The reaction to offshoring by the socialist French government should be fascinating, if this is true.

Airbus announces a factory in Alabama...just after announcing a plan to make wider seats for those with extra junk in the trunk.

Coincidence? I think not! :D :D :D

Interesting that Airbus can shift production to Alabama without facing a fight but when Boeing tries to shift its production from Seattle to South Carolina it finds itself staring down the barrel of NRLB lawsuits.

Still, good news for Alabama, which is already the oddest mix of laid-back hicks and aerospace engineers I know. I can't think of a better place to build airliners.

Tuscaloosa Alabama, where Mercedes builds their M, R and GL class vehicles. Go figure!

Airbus sets up a factory in the US? Maybe Boeing could set up at factory in France.

Why is that interesting? Is Airbus attempting to displace existing US union workers?

I don't think ever consider it. Boeing is not going for overseas. They aren't going anywhere.

That is blatant misinformation. The NLRB was not pursuing a case based on displacement of union workers for non union workers. The NLRB was pursuing a case based on retaliation against a union. NLRB's case was based almost entirely on the comments of a Boeing executive -- saying in effect Boeing's expansion to a non right to work state was based on punishing the union for past strikes according to the Executive. But for "displacement of workers", the SC assembly plant expansion had no outwardly known plans to fire workers in Washington and no Washington workers were notified of their dismissal due to the SC plant. However, regardless of the Boeing exec opening his mouth or not, the union was not going to let the plant open in SC without a fight (it is the job of a union to have new jobs be within their domain). I would also be surprised if the French union allows the Alabama expansion without a fight. It may end up being the same as the Boeing situation, Airbus will have to promise A and B to it European unionized workers for their acquiescence on the Alabama plant opening.

Additional interesting byline to this story.... Airbus chose a right to work state to open their factory.....and that isn't by mistake according to Alabama's governor (the French union should be able to use that quote). Regardless of the reason, Airbus will have a regional labor cost advantage over Boeing. Boeing's desire to achieve greater amounts of lower wage/non union workers is likely to increase because of Airbus' announcement.

It happens all the time. Nissan is in the process of hiring an additional 1,000 workers at its plant just outside of Nashville.

They already ARE everywhere. The idea that a Boeings American planes is silly. Yes, the company is American but if you look at what a Boeing plane is made of and where all the different parts are manufactured, you're in for a surprise. ;)
