“TSA holds all of its employees to the highest professional and ethical standards and has a zero tolerance for misconduct in the workplace,” the statement read. “Accountability is an important aspect of our work and TSA takes prompt and appropriate action with any employee who does not follow our procedures and engages in misconduct. The decision to take disciplinary action, including the proposed immediate removal of eight individuals from the TSA reaffirms our strong commitment to ensure the safety of the traveling public and to hold all our employees to the highest standards of conduct and accountability.”

Are they seriously still using that bit of boilerplate? Does anyone actually buy that horsepuckey any more?

Yikes! That not good! They should never sleeping on the job. They didn't followed the rules. Unfortunately for 8 TSA screeners were firing. They won't be working at airport anymore. It's very serious! They cannot allowed to sleeping on the job. Never!

The sad bit is that those TSA employees who were sleeping on the job were doing the least damage.

Yes, they did. They did not followed the rules and they should never allowed to sleeping on the job. They have to stay awake all of the time. They will be terminated from the job. Those 8 screeners wil get disciplinary action.

They will be terminated from the job. Those 8 screeners wil get disciplinary action from TSA manager.

And that's the sad part. The ones who were sleeping on the job were not molesting passengers, stealing stuff, or otherwise damaging the safety of our nation.

The ones who were NOT sleeping on the job were doing exactly that.

I'd be cool with slipping roofies into the coffee/booze of an entire TSA shift. Airports would be safer than ever!

The eight screeners fired after reporting for work this morning were all transportation security officers, or TSOs, rank-and-file employees who make up the bulk of the 1,400 TSA employees in Newark, the TSA said. The TSOs, who were not identified, worked in a bag room at Terminal B, the TSA said. All eight are barred from future employment with the agency.

Do they really need 1400 employees for 1 airport?

I was wondering about that too. Common sense says that airport could effectively be secured with 500 security screeners or less--and privatization would allow for staffing cuts like that to happen.

The employees were captured on videotape failing to follow standard operating procedures for screen checked bags, the agency said, adding that some of the screeners were videotaped sleeping in the bag roomOMG, the tape was not only located but it was undamaged and viewable. It's a miracle I tell you-a miracle ;)

Are they seriously still using that bit of boilerplate? Does anyone actually buy that horsepuckey any more?It cost a lot of taxpayer dollars to buy all those rubber stamps so the TSA might as well get their money's worth ;)

Well, yeah. Who's going to delete the security camera footage of their co-workers stealing stuff if you cut the staff?

Makes you wonder what those employees were asking for "on the job." Like maybe the appearance of morality and ethics...

The article said that the union stood ready to appeal all the terminations. I hope all the sleepers win. I wonder if they all slept individually or if they had a nice cozy slumber party???

There is no way to delete the security camera footage. It's still there.

Yes, but it's "SSI", which means it won't be released for fear that the boogeyman might expose a weakness in our system (here's a hint: there are 100 or so weaknesses in our system standing around every checkpoint), and FOIA requests will be denied for that reason.

Yes, unfortunately, they were no longer work for TSA. They did breaking the rules. It's not acceptable for the behavior. They can't be sleeping on the job.

Rest assured they will hire 10 more zero's to replace those 8.

As others have said, I'd rather they be sleeping on the job than "securing our nation's airports".

Oh, good. They will hire new TSA screeners by replace the current TSA employee. They have try to best behave and they have followed the rules.

How is hiring new screeners ever a good thing? I'd rather have eight totally ineffective screeners sleeping on the job than have eight totally ineffective screeners checking out baggage to see what they want to steal today.
