Just a heads up for anybody flying AirAsia in/out of Bangkok later this year or next year: as of 01 October, AirAsia will move all of their Bangkok operations from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Don Mueang Airport (DMK). See press release at http://www.airasia.com/th/en/corporate/pressrelease.page

I am sure this was a well thought strategic move for the AirAsia, however, I just can't help but cringe at the thought of transiting Bangkok to get from one airport to the other because one of my flights is on AirAsia and the other is on a carrier that uses BKK.

Actually, this was/is discussed in Thailand forum, and IIRC it's done because BKK is over capacity, and Prime Minister asked LCCs to move to Don Muang. AirAsia was apparently offered some sort of reward to free up capacity at BKK.
There is some speculation that SkyTrain will be extended to Don Muang, which would make the connection easier. Right now the best way may well be to take the train from BKK to SkyTrain to Mo Chit, possibly MRT with a connection at Makkasan, though that would involve about a ten minute walk from the train to the subway.
Short of walking, this would be cheapest. Of course if the walk would taka longer than a day, it could involve a hotel stay making it more expensive  ;)
