Virgin Atlantic Flying Club - How far in advance to book award travel?

We're planning a vacation in April 2013 - and am planning on using VX Elevate miles for VS Upper Class between SFO and LHR.

When can/should I book this?

You need to book as soon as they become available as other people will be wanting them too !

That might mean checking on a regular basis and striking as soon as they appear

I'm not sure what the process of using VX miles on a VS flight though so check that out too.

And, even if you don't see availability now, keep looking, things change.

Also be flexible if you can to give more options.

And, start early, as said, like now - reward seats can be available from 11 months out.

I am looking for flights to LAX in May. Availability is there now, although I would rather not book until nearer Christmas when dates are finalised etc. I am wondering what reward availability has been like on this route in the past?

My advice is to book now - for reward flights there is a small change fee subject to availability (£25 I think for UK residents) so you can secure your trip now, and if there is flexibility later change it. Worth calling into VS to check the same applies for US residents though.
