Italy - Civitavecchia-area sightseeing while docked for the day?

We're on a Med cruise in early July, luckily bumped from a transatlantic with a nice upgrade - but I digress.

Rome is amazing but we spent a couple of days there fairly recently. 10 years ago during a cruise we rode the train from Civitavecchia to Rome and back and have decided against that option. We love to poke around smaller areas and would be happy just to be able to walk around, indulge in a nice lunch, and generally enjoy a low-key day.

Any suggestions along those lines in or around Civitavecchia? What about a walking tour like this (http://www.civitavecchia.net/places-itineraries.html#porto), for example?

Thanks in advance. :)

I highly recommend Ostia Antica, which is a very interesting Roman ruin.
