There are quite a few promos/offers related to La Première on the go at the moment. Must be fairly light on loads these days!!!

Actually, this is a fairly sweet offer. The upgrade amounts listed in Mokshu's spreadsheet aren't as bad as I feared (in the light of the cost of a straightforward First redemption).

To USA, especially LAX, the amount requested is quite fair, 37.5k. But 60k for Asia is quite expensive still for what you get. Normal levels are horrendous though.

They have been running these promos a few times in the last couple of years, but with more special offers in F, it might be that they want people to fly F when before, with only P fares and no offer to upgrade or buy a ticket with miles, it seemed they wanted to preserve the integrity of the cabin so that the captain's wife&family would not be disturbed...

it indeed appears to be a welcome change in AF philosophy.

I tried to get an upgrade to F today (CDG-LAX-CDG), but I was told that "there is no such promotion" and "an upgrade is not possible from J". Needless to argue! I then tried to find the news item in the FB and AF pages, but this was not possible. Does anyone have the URL, so that I can check the possibility again? Thanks in advance...

They seem to have removed it at the end of June.
Remember that you have to be FB elite to upgrade to F (promo or not).

I'm gold. At any rate, a promotion that allows booking till July 15, which is no longer valid on July 2nd, this is one of the reasons why I jumped ship a few years ago from FB...

It is well hidden.
It does not show on the AF website or under the regular FB promos/news. One has to go to FB, then to promo/news. Then click on Air France, to find the "news". No surprise that booking agents are not aware.

Thanks a lot for the URL. I called again, "yes, there is a promotion" but "no, it's not for those booked on J, only D!". Well, then, so be it... :(

Are you sure ? This is getting weird. Usually upgrading with miles is for the highest fares meaning J and C if you originate from France. D is excluded.
So I would have expected the opposite answer "available in J but not in D".

As written in the first thread, and available on AFKLMBIZ, this promo is available for Elite members with a business fare J/C/D, included from France.

Problem solved! As delanotre says, the promotion is indeed valid for J/C/D (confirmed by FB agent, although it really took her about 5 minutes to find out). It turns out, though, that my booking class is Z and not J (I didn't have my e-ticket on hand when I called them), and differences in pronunciation/accent created the misunderstanding. I'll have to settle with good old business class then. ;)
