United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - Delayed flight...check in after scheduled departure?

Flight is delayed over an hour, depending on how late it goes I might bail on the trip. Ticket purchased within 24hrs so it's refundable.

Based on searching it's tough to cancel after checking in....I'd rather wait on check in (already through security).

Can I check in after scheduled departure time??

It really isn't all that hard to cancel after checking in IME. The agent has to off-load you from the flight but that isn't too hard on UA metal.

You should be checked in prior to the original cut-off (so 30-60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.

Are you sure that UA lets you refund a ticket purchased close to departure? This isn't included under the new federal law, so it would need to be a COdbaUA rule/policy in the CoC.
