New England - BOS holiday traffic?

View Full Version : BOS holiday traffic?

I'll be traveling around New England next week and the latest schedule has me driving from southern Maine into BOS on the 3rd July for a flight departing at 19:00.

Having done that leg of the journey before, I'd expect it to take about 90mins, but I've no idea whether there's going to be a huge increase in traffic due to the impending 4th July holiday, or whether traffic would be non-existent as everyone would have already headed off.

Anyone more local able to provide some insight as to whether that travel time is still realistic, or do i need to add a significant safety margin?

Thanks.

I'd expect traffic to be close to Zero if you take the route 95 south -> 1 south -> 1a -> Logan.

Be sure to avoid Storrow Drive, as there's usually a July 3rd concert on the Esplanade. (Not that you'd normally go anywhere near Storrow en route from Maine.)

Thats a good route to take! I would still be leary of traffic though - it is a workday before a holiday - for a 1900 flight I would be estimate the OP to be coming near Boston right at rush hour, so even just normal traffic could slow you down - granted, a lot of people are going to take that week off, but close to zero might not be correct either.

That's about right, I was thinking of getting close to BOS around 17:00, dump the rental, and head into the terminal. Of course, perhaps the more prudent questions would be, what's the queue for security likely to be the day before the holiday?

What terminal are you heading out of (or airline)? I've done plenty of late afternoon flights in Boston and its really hit or miss - I've breezed through A and the next week stuck in a 30 min line. I wish I had a better answer - my gut tells me it won't be too bad, but its hard to estimate. The traffic, on the other hand, would be my main concern. From southern Maine, I would personally leave no later than 4pm (Wells, ME area is what I'm estimating from)

I agree with sweeper20 - both his gut instinct and his 4:00 suggestion. Or her.
