Travel Photography - Any good point & shoot cameras with remote control?

Years ago I had a few 35mm film cameras that had remote controls. Boy that was nice. Now I'm looking for a point & shoot that has remote control capability. I'm not looking for a DSLR. I would like to find something with a good zoom, eyepiece, etc.

I did find a Kodak, but my partner tells me that I'm not allowed to buy a Kodak because of a bad experience more than 10 years ago. Is it impossible to find this kind of camera in another brand, preferably Canon or Nikon? I'm considering the Coolpix P510 sold at Costco, but it has no remote capability.

BTW, my preferred budget is $200-$500.

Did some quick looking on the internet. It looks like both Nikon and Canon have options for you, but the infrared remote is going to be additional. Amazon carries a remote for the Nikon CoolPix cameras that retails at about $25. Didn't do too much investigation beyond that, but it gives you an idea. Hopefully others will be able to speak more conclusively to this question.

Use advanced camera search on dpreview.com. Choose the camera style - ultra-compact and compact AND remote control. Several Nikon and Pentax models support it, as well as Olympus' XZ-1. Canon's compact P&Ses don't support remote release; only their higher-end and bigger "G" models do.

Thanks! That was very helpful. I'll look through the results and check reviews.

On the Canon side of the fence, I think the newer G-series PowerShots (G10 and above) can take a remote cable release. The newer S-series supports shutter release upon detecting a smile (which seems to work surprisingly well when I've tried it on my S95).

In addition, if you have a camera which CHDK can be loaded onto then you can use that with a USB trigger like the Ricoh CA-1.

The Nikon Powershot P7000 and P7100 allow the use of a remote. It works well for single shots and shooting in continuous mode, but does not kick off bracketed shots (which drives me crazy). But it does work for most needs.
