Very green at this. Booked great rate from MCO to SAN for July 4th using 25% off sale. Now need one-way return from SAN to MCO on or around July 17th (flexible on the date). They show WGA fare of $186 right now. Times aren't the best but do-able. Should I book or wait? Thank.

$186 is a decent price for one way for purchase less than 21 days advance. And if the price drops, SWA will save the difference as a credit in to your booking.

I purchased a $145 one way from SAN-JFK on AA back in early May. I had to change my reservation to a later date and they said i will get NO refund/credit and have to purchased a brand new ticket. :(

For the OP, as you say you are new at this:

You have to refare (change) the ticket to get this savings. Do it online (you don't have to cancel it, just change it). Very easy.

Thanks, SDCA, I'm thinking I should go ahead and book. Was trying to avoid the credit as we don't fly too often. A credit is alot better than no refund/credit being offered at all. :(

Hello there, toomanybooks, I'm OP and the green one. I did read here to book one-way fares in case of changes and I got a great rate MCO to SAN. I didn't purchase return, SAN to MCO, yet. I was hoping to get slightly cheaper and better times for around July 17th. Just wasn't sure if I was pushing my luck. Guess I should stop holding out and take the $186 with the not-so-great time. Thanks.

Remember fare sales start on Tuesdays! So, you may want to wait until tomorrow, but definitely book tomorrow as that is 21 days in advance purchase. The lowest fare MAY have a 21 day advance purchase requirement.

I almost booked today but got sidetracked and then saw your post. Glad I did 'cause it won't hurt to wait one more day. But tomorrow is definitely the day I have to book something. Thanks, Formeraa! :)

Today is the last day of last week's 7-day sale (and fares can change or sell out at any time). There are currently only five days on the July calendar with a $186 fare; the other 26 days all have higher fares. I would go ahead and book now. If there is a lower fare tomorrow, you can use the 24 hour rule to obtain a full refund and purchase a new ticket at the lower price. That is a better result than using the travel credit approach described above.

Hmmm...interesting. I didn't know about the 24 hour rule. On my way over to southwest.com right now to check it out. This rookie thanks all of you for your excellent help!

I didn't know about the 24 hour rule.

Read the FAQ (http://www.flyerguide.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Southwest_Rapid_Rewards) (again?)! :)

There is so much info there, it could easily require ten readings to learn it all. Whether it takes one, ten, or even a hundred times, it will be time well-spent (for those who fly several times per year).

I didn't read the FAQ again but I did find the Customer Service info and the 24-hour rule was clearly stated there. You're right, it's an informative read. No change in rates today but I am happy I purchased last night. The cost is pretty good especially considering other airlines charge for bags. It's the flight time that is long but we'll deal with it or may have the opportunity to change...another BIG plus flying SW. Thank you one and all! ^

For what it's worth, the 24 hour rule is now available at all airlines as it was enacted into law. That said, whether you can simply change your itinerary to the new price vs. totally canceling, getting a refund, then booking at the new price depends on the policies of that airline.

There should be a checkbox that confirms that you have read the FAQ before you are allowed to create a new thread asking a question.
