I was originally booked on 2204/1550 CVG-CLT-RDU on Friday 6/22.
I paid a $50 confirmed standby fee to get on an earlier flight - that got me into RDU at 8:54. (Flights 8440 and 1602).
Flight 8440 was scheduled to depart at 5:30, but departed at 6:30 instead. Crew as there and weather was OK at CLT by then - the delay appeared to be staff rebooking as many folks from the cancelled PHL flight to this flight.
Consequently, I missed my connection to 1602 and was told I was Number 3 for standby on flight 1550 - my original flight - which was 'oversold'. They could book me in the morning. I drove instead rather than risk an overnight.
I feel like I was sold a standby seat where there was no hope of actually making the connection. i.e. I was deceived.
I've been flying long enough to know that stuff happens, but is there a case to be made for asking for my $50 back?
