Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - Costs/Fees when changing passengers after booking with companion coupons

My family is heading to Hawaii tomorrow. Originally, my mother and father were booked in first class using a companion coupon, while the kids and spouses were booked in coach using companion coupons for each pair.

My father's work plans changed, and he became unable to go, so I called Alaska to ask about moving my wife up to first class. My wife was originally traveling as the companion on my coach ticket, and I wanted to see if we could now have her travel as the companion on my mother's first class ticket.

The agent said this was possible, but that we would lose the value of my wife's original airfare ($99.00 fare + $60.15 taxes = $159.15). I thought this sounded acceptable for a confirmed first class seat both directions, so I asked the agent to make the change. Our PNRs now show me traveling solo in coach, and my wife and mother traveling together in first.

However, upon web check-in today, we received an error message on the first class reservation. The message says, "Our records indicate an additional amount is due. For assistance, please proceed to the airport ticket counter and check in with an Alaska Airlines Customer Service Agent."

I don't want to get hit with unexpected additional fees when we arrive at the airport tomorrow. The Companion Fare FAQ Thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alaska-airlines-mileage-plan/1118431-companion-fare-faq.html) has information about name change fees, but nothing about moving a passenger from a coach companion reservation to a first class companion reservation.

Based on your experience, did the agent process our ticket changes properly? Are we going to lose the original airfare AND have to pay name change fees?

For those who are interested, here's the follow-up on yesterday's post:

We arrived at the airport this morning and checked in as normal. The agent didn't say anything about extra fees, and we didn't ask. Looks like the original agent did everything correctly. Success!

I'm getting this message now for an Alaska flight tomorrow that connects to a China Southern flight. Award ticket through Delta.

Our records indicate an additional amount is due. For assistance, please proceed to the airport ticket counter and check in with an Alaska Airlines Customer Service Agent.
