I recently booked a trip I'd rather not call about but the PNR I got came back with only 5 digits! I figured the missing one was going to be on either the tail end or the front of what I've already got, so I went through trying to figure out what it might have been.
Has anyone come across this before and found a solution? Am I going to have to bite the bullet and call?

All my MH flight PNR have only got 5 digits. So you might not be missing anything afterall.

Some airline reservation systems only issue 5 digit PNR's.

I see. Right, so then something else is amiss. It seems that it's just unable to load the reservation, then. Is there any reason for that?

MHs MMB only works with flights ex Malaysia. Silly, but true

It didn't use to be like that. I could access bookings made from (and originating) in Australia previously. What I found was that if you changed anything about the booking through their call centre, it somehow affects the booking and stops you from accessing it online through the MMB function. Quite retarded, IMO.:td:

That's really awful. Comforting, and I'm really glad to know it, but that's pretty much ridiculous. Thanks all!

I was having the same problem. Good to see I am not the only one.
On another note, you can get the Amadeus booking code to access your booking for Checkmytrip for example.

Er, how's he gonna do that if booking was made with MH engine and not Amadeus?

Checkmytrip does not accept five-digit PNRs; it says it's invalid (it doesn't even go to the server -- it refuses to accept the entry).
And the Malaysian web site comes back with a lovely error message when you click on "Manage" [an itinerary]:
Facility under development
Our Manage My Booking facility is currently under development. Following this, all bookings created before 25 Oct 2012 will be inaccessible via our website.
If you wish to make changes on those bookings, kindly contact our 1 300 88 3000 (within Malaysia) or +603 7843 3000 (outside Malaysia). Alternatively, you may visit our nearest ticket office.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this period.
Nice "system upgrade" corresponding to their entry into oneworld.
And the MH web site won't let me use the on-line check-in feature until 48 hours before the flight. I really don't want to wait til then to make sure the booking is intact.
By the way, this is for one of the RGN mistake fares; I am able to retrieve the ticket on the Delta web site, but the first segment RGN-KUL is missing.
I bought the ticket from travelocity.co.uk which, astonishingly, does not have the capability to retrieve an itinerary -- you can retrieve the basic purchase details and ask for the system to e-mail you the itinerary, but of course this doesn't work. I won't make the mistake of buying from them again.
Does anyone know of a way to check an MH itinerary on-line (or a five-digit PNR from something analogous to checkmytrip.com that searches whatever GDS MH uses)?

Unfortunately, not possible to check online at this time. You will have to call up to check.

Thanks, rooivalk. Somewhat off-topic, but I will report the result.
I called Delta, since it's an 006 ticket, and told them that a segment was missing when I pulled up the itinerary on their web site. The agent said, oh I see that your flight is KUL-XXX-YYY-ZZZ-KUL-RGN. I said, no, it starts in RGN and the first segment is missing.
He then said, oh, I see that it's RGN-KUL-XXX-YYY-ZZZ-KUL-RGN. Everything is fine, the itinerary is intact. I said, then why did your first reading tell me that it was only five segments, starting in KUL? He said, "I looked at a different screen." I replied, well, which is the right screen, and how do I know that the MH check-in agent in RGN will see the "right screen"? He said, don't worry, I see the record of your ticket and all six segments are there.
So I guess I am OK. Worst case, I will sort it out at T-48h when I can check-in on-line. But annoying.

It may be a 006 DL ticket, but unless DL themselves issued the ticket, they won't see the RGN-KUL sector unless its on a 'different' screen because the reservations screen and the e-ticket screen is different. When DL pulls up their record locator or flight number they will only see their flight and the one immediately preceeding it and the one post their last segment of their flight. They will not see where you originated from. If the OTA issued the ticket, then it is THEY whom you must contact as they will display the entire itinerary.
MH will see that flight cos its their flight and they may not see the ongoing sectors of the flight at reservations. Only at check in, will the check in agent see the continuation of your journey within a day or two of the MH flight.
You know you really should be asking this question over at the RGN MR forum as your question really has nothing to do with MH.
