Hi don't know if this is the right place to post but I am new to finding good fares and would like to do some mileage run preferably heading to Japan anytime in the remainder of the year.

Just wonder if there's any deal going on and any strategy for finding a good fare or even catching a mistake fare :P

Thank you very much for all the help, have a great weekend :)

Thanks for the Alert; I have added a prefix to the title, cleaned up the airport routing slightly and moved this question out of Mileage Run Deals and into Mileage Run Discussion forum.

NttDocomo, please read this Information thread about how the Mileage Run forums work: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mileage-run-deals/454485-welcome-mileage-run-forum-important-information-how-mr-forums-work.html

Mileage Run Deals is NOT for any kind of question. It is only for sharing fare deals.

Tons of TYO sales and fares posted to MR deals and also to trick it in the past few weeks to months. Plenty of dates out of LAX in fall last time I checked although I've been busy and haven't checked for maybe a couple, three weeks. I think the strategy would be to do some very basic research and then come back with a more focused question.

Thanks peachfront, just wonder how to trick the price? Before I post, I did a search on "Tokyo", "NRT", "HND"... in this forum but the threads came out seem to mention deals on other routes. If possible can you please post an example of the most recent deal and tell me how to find these deals or to trick them? Thank you very very much, have a great day :)

If I did, they would move the entire thread to trickit anyway. No need to read 20,000 posts for TYO deals. Start backwards and or at least start with May 2012 postings and somewhere in there you'll find the deal I bought, which was on SkyTeam. (You do know which thread I'm speaking of right? One with a really long name and a really LARGE number of posts but always near the top because people post in it everyday.) Some other examples with screenshots are given at travel-dealz.de but starting in Europe instead of LAX. If you don't read German, use the microsoft translator tool and it's pretty easy to figure out -- it might give you an idea of the wide range of deals and techniques to bring down the price which are still out there; clear explanations in English have pretty much been removed all over the internet because of over-use by deal seekers.

Adding the FUK leg specifically I can't say what this will do to your price, but I think let's get you to/from Japan first and then worry about getting more specific. Most of the deals I've seen have been TYO. Also, I've not seen SFO-LAX-TYO just LAX-SFO-TYO but I'm pretty sure someone else posted an ex-SFO deal when it was too late for me. So another reason to visit the trickit thread even though it is very tedious. Anyway, I hope this gives you a place to start hunting without nuking the whole thread...Good Luck!

there were very attractive and dumpable HA fares to FUK last month from all over the west coast, though they weren't alive when last I checked. There are two recent entrants on the FUK-HNL route, so that may make for some overcapacity and good fares. peachfront mentioned another recent good one SEA/NYC to TYO/KIX/ICN but it is no longer with us. Follow the MR forum and trick it threads to get help finding MRs. the ins and outs of tricking are beyond this thread and pretty unapproachable unless you love riddles and really want to make a hobby of finding/constructing FDs... steep learning curve, research involved, and some risk when traveling that tricks will scuttle your trip.

OP is asking for cheap fares for a MR. This can't be a fare request if OP hasn't set specific dates nor a single destination.

Thanks peachfront, it was an amazing deal you got in May. I wish I have jumped on the same deal :) I looked into the German site but will take some time to translate, read and understand.

In fact I just want to visit any part of Japan so doesn't have to be FUK, TYO, KIX, or even the sunny OKA would be great, please let me know if you see any good deal. Thanks. Also please check your PM. Thanks. :)

Thanks evoG, I will try looking into the FUK-HNL route. Just wonder will the route between HNL-SFO or LAX kills the deal as tickets between those cities in the summer are costly. Anyhow thanks for your comment, please check your PM. :)

Thanks clack0 and tcook052 for your comments. I am not looking for a fare request (although I am free in the coming two weeks so please let me know if I should post somewhere else to ask for a fare to Asia in the next two weeks). My work has very flexible schedule so I may take time off to do MR when a deal comes up and personally I would like to travel to Japan or Asia to do the MR as I have friends and family there so may as well make use of the layover time to visit and tour around.

I am reading up the first two posts about the tools and am starting to learn using them. However, I heard many mentioned using different web sites to find flights, just wonder how are these strategies different from the conventional fare search on Kayak and Expedia. I am hoping to learn more skills in searching fare so I may seek, share and contribute as I am looking forward to having more visits to Asia in the coming years and hope to make this activity my hobby.

Thanks for all the time and help. Have a great day :)

No actually as per the forum sticky fare requests are not permitted at all on FT so please don't post asking for help find a cheap fare.

THanks tcook052 for your clarification. My main purpose is to make MR with preference to traveling to Asia. I am a AA Platinum currently with 40k and would like to see if I can make Ex Plat this year by making a few long-haul flights to Asia, so looking for ways to learn how to look for MR deals or tricks to do so. Hope this clarifies and thanks for help :)

However, I don't necessary have to fly AA as I am thinking of switching to United and I do have some miles that will help me make least a Gold or even Platinum this year if I find a good long-haul MR deal with them. Thanks again for all the help :)

It does help and you've come to the right forum to ask for help for creative routings to earn FFM on MR's to requalify for elite as you've done in this thread. My comment was more a gentle reminder that any other kind of request for low fare for specific dates and destinations would be viewed as a fare request and as such isn't encouraged on FT.

Good luck with your goal to renew elite status. :)
