booked a BWI >>> TUS UA MR while those fares were alive about two months ago with routing BWI >>> IAH >>> SFO >>> TUS // TUS >>> LAX >>> BWI, yielding approx 6.5k eqm. somewhat recently, i rec'd an notice that a modification had been made to my itinerary and now the outbound leg is BWI >>> IAH >>> TUC, dropping the total yield to 4.9k eqm, making this not really a fruitful yield by cpms. when looking at the available flights, it looks like one of the originally scheduled segs may have disappeared (a later SFO >>> TUS flight) hence the changing of my routing to something close to my scheduled outbound departure time.

it looks like the original routing is available, but just departing at an earlier time (~8:00 am v. 11:00 am). should i be able to call to get on to that one?

call & see if you can get on that one, or maybe get a full refund....

Presume you called to ask why UA moved you? What did they say? That's a good starting point.

haven't called yet, this is the first time i've had a unilateral modification on one of my itins that didn't require me to confirm... i'll call in this week to see what i can do. looks like seats are wide open for the earlier flights. i guess i'm wondering if it is some way of UA "cleaning" up the circuitous routings by MR'ers, but i'm now thinking it is because a seg no longer exists from my originally booked itin.

I booked EWR-SFO-TUS-LAX-EWR also when these fares were in effect (and the price subsequently dropped $20). I am visiting a friend in TUS for a few days so not doing an immediate return. My schedule had a drastic change, 2 hours earlier departure (with a 41 min layover/connection in SFO) and a later return. I called UA and spoke to them. They reviewed all my choices with me, most through IAH for less miles, but it was pretty clear that I could select whatever I wanted due to the schedule change. I told her I wanted to keep it the same to get the miles but wanted her to check for another later flight in case I missed my connection in SFO. She verified that there was another flight (through LAX for even more miles) so I stuck with my original routing and new times. You shouldn't have a problem if you call.
