West - What is going on in Denver next week?

A coworker and I need to go to Broomfield next week Tuesday thru Friday and had a heck of a time finding some place to stay! Every Hyatt within a 50 mile radius is sold out. Couldn't find any full service hotels or anything associated with the major chains (Hyatt, Hilton, SPG, Marriott) anywhere close. Managed to get a La Quinta about 5.5 miles east. Not my preferred, but at least we'll have beds!
So what is going on that is sucking up all the hotel rooms?

Oops - I first tried wrong dates, but I see your predicament for next week.
National Assn of Chain Drug Stores has a convention next week - 3,000 people - that may be it.
The HGI in Cherry Creek is still available at $289(!). It is at least a nice property.

For your dates next week, I see the Hyatt House Boulder Broomfield open - admittedly low end Hyatt (formerly Summerfield Suites) but it's there.
Also plenty of Hilton, Marriott and Intercontinental options. The Renaissance is $285 if you need true full service.

Are you possibly looking at the wrong dates? I see nothing for the 26th-29th. The Hyatt House would actually be ideal location-wise, but for this coming week, nada
Edit:
I see your updated post - that could be it. There is also some sort of computing in education conference.

In addition to that HGI there are some Intercontinental options - the Crowne Plaza downtown and the HI Select in Cherry Creek. Neither is as nice as the HGI Cherry Creek.
Also: Room consolidators like getaroom.com might be able to help. They are - supposedly - still showing the Hyatt Regency Tech Center for $217 a night.

Thought about that. I had tried the standard OTAs (Orbitz, Expedia, etc) and had no luck, so I tried things like hotels.com and hotelscombined.com. Really no better options than the La Quinta. Just a complete lack of hotels. Based on a more extensive lack of hotels in the north than the south, I'm wondering if whatever is going on is actually closer to Boulder.

The Holiday Inn Select in Cherry Creek is showing availability as well as La Quinta on Park Ave and several Quality Inns.

Yea, there was not a room to be had last night.
I wonder if the fires around Ft. Collins and CO Springs are filling hotels in Denver? Manitou Springs had 5000 evacuated.

At checkin i inquired again and was told that there is a large softball tournament in town. Girls in from all 50 states. Saw a small group at dinner tonight

Yes there is the softball tournament and the fires are definitely not helping. There were over 32,000 evacuated last night from the Springs.

Fire Fire wait dont run this kind of fire is lots of fun.....
In Denver north and south you have two large fires with evacuation orders. Many of the people possibly have moved to hotels which has also caused a problem with demand....AND ALSO HOTELS PRICE GOUGING

OP here. When I posted, the Flagstaff fire hadn't started, so the North lack of availability seems to only be tied to the softball tournament. The south evacs because of the Waldo Canyon fire were definitely contributing to the lack of availability down there though.
