SkyTeam - How do I best use Hawaiian miles on Delta?

I'm a bit confused on how this works--if it does. I've heard and read conflicting details.

I've got about 20K miles on Hawaiian and about 40K in Delta.

1) Can I combine nmy HA miles to DL to make 60K miles?

2) If so, with whom can I fly?

3) If not, what can I best do to utilize these miles?

This link says it can't be done--yet within the same link it says it can be done. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta-skymiles-pre-worldperks-merger/980950-using-skymiles-alaska-airlines.html

1. No. Alaska miles + Delta miles can't be done, either.

2. One can use HA miles on Delta for Low band awards, and Delta miles selectively on some HA flights in the bottom or middle award tier (with some city pair restrictions IIRC). There are about 20 carriers on which one can redeem Delta miles.

It can be done through points.com if you don't mind extortionate exchange rates.;)

points.com rates are variable.
Into DL, the current rate is HA 8432 = DL 1000. Your HA miles become 2K DL miles.
Into HA, the current rate is DL 30000 + $330 fee = HA 2000. Your DL miles become 2K HA miles after paying $330 fee.

I suggest that you go see a shrink before using points.com. :p

Indeed. The typical points.com conversion is so bad that I dismiss the notion entirely. Thank you for adding that for completeness.
