I just booked HA 32 July 2 using AA reduced mileage 22,500 miles. AA could not assign a seat. I called HA and they said I couldn't get a seat until 2-3 hours before the flight. I asked if my AA EXP status would help and she said no. Any suggestions?

I have had no problem getting seat assignments in F for HA50/51 after using AA miles by calling HA. EXP gets you nothing special when it comes to seat assignments. So, the only difference between your situation and mine is F vs Y. Perhaps someone expert on HA seat assignments can add to this.
FWIW, I have in then past purchased inter island flights and have been able to get seats assigned in coach on deep discount tickets.
I got my HA PNR from AA and then called HA and got seats no problem. It was pretty far out so maybe that helped. My AA status did me no good with respect to seat location.
Same happened to me. Called HA and was told seats would be assigned hours before flight (next Spring). Read posts here and called AA, obtained HA PNR, called back HA using the HA PNR and seats were assigned!

We have reward seats LAX to OGG. We were given great seat assignments. Then we had to change the flight and now they want us to show up 3 hrs early. I am not happy about leaving my vacation early to sit at the airport. So what is this PNR you speak of. We fly on Oct 25th.

PNR is the 6 digit code associated with your reservation. In general, each airline has its own code. This thread was dealing with tickets issued by AA, but the flight was HA. There are two different PNR's, one associated with the AA reservation, the other associated with the HA reservation.
You can call AA and ask for your HA PNR number. Then, call HA and get your seats.

It's also known as the "Confirmation Number" (which may or may not be all numbers ;)) for your reservation
