Thailand - Late night BKK layover. What can we do?

In a month, we'll have long and late layover at BKK. Arriving domestically from USM (Koh Samui) at 20:45 on PG and departing at 02:30 to AMS on CI.
How can we best spend this layover? We are a party of 4 (2 older children). Are most shops/restaurant/other facilities still open until 01:00?
We'll have no airline comped lounge access.
Any recommendations to kill the time? I suppose we can't access the PG lounge on arrival, can we?

Seriously? You're asking us what a family could possibly do for 6 hours.
Eat something.
Drink something.
People watch.
Read a book/magazine/newspaper.
Sodoku, crosswords, word search, card games
Video games
Walk around
Bring a ball to play catch with
Play games that families play on road trips (I spy, 20 questions)
Have a conversation
Write in a journal
Take a nap
Explore the airport
Draw a picture
I'm assuming you have to exit and check back in for your next flight? Walk around downstairs where the airport link train service is at. Heck, ride the train around for an hour or two.

I think you can clear Immigration at USM, and interline your bags through BKK, in which case you will be airside at BKK with limited options, although some shops and restaurants are sure to be open.
I think you could also stay as a domestic passenger to BKK, then be land-side with perhaps more options. Not sure about baggage options in this case, and you'd have to clear Immigration departing BKK.

Oke so shops and restaurants should be open. Any other entertainment venues like at Changi? Are there area's with resting-chairs of some kind?

There are many more seats airside than streetside. The best (cheaper) eating option is the food court on the first floor streetside. Entertainment? :D HAHAHA. Nope, nothing.

Two more questions, we'll arrive on a Sunday at 06:30. Is this a peak time at immigration and can we expect large queues?
Also, what pay-for-access lounges are there at BKK and what are the prices?
