I will be staying at the Mayfair in Coconut Grove in October for an overnight stay (first time back since I lived there in 1968/69). I would love to take out my wife for a wonderful brunch before we fly out to LAX (en route back to Australia) and I would welcome any suggestions.

P.S. In the 60's I rented an apartment at Jamestown-in-the Grove which was at 2721 South Bayshore Drive but has long since been replaced. Does anyone remember it?

Yes, I remember it well. What a great view we used to have and a nightclub down in the basement area. I really miss that place.

If it's not raining, try the Peacock Garden Cafe (http://peacockspot.com). Really cheerful place with good food, somewhat more dressy than the other cafes in town.

I'm glad to report a successful overnight trip and a pleasant stay at the Mayfair. We had a quick snack at Vinos in the Grove (after a long flight from Paris via JFK) and had to miss the fun of Oktoberfest to catch up with some sleep. However we were up in good time to enjoy a really great brunch at Calamari. Superb selection and very good prices including a free glass of champagne.
I noticed that Jamestown has been replaced by the somewhat grander Grove Towers. I think the Grove may be even better than it was in 1969!
