Does anyone have issue with HI specifically where the rate automatically change closer to the date of check-in? This happened to me about 3 times and they are all at HI or HIX. So everytime I book, I always check online and the email that I got and compare the prices. I call the hotel and they don’t even know, so its always good to have a copy of the email confirmation with the pricing.

Is this a common issue?

If the price goes up request a correction to the rate. If the price goes down do not reqeust a correction to the rate. Yes a common issue.

Often a room upgrade will result in a price upgrae but the price charges is the initial price on the initial reservation. Confirm the price at check in as you are signing the check in paperwork.

Surely the rate you pay is the is the rate when you make your reservation, not the rate prevailing on the day of arrival? Why is that a problem?

That's not so sure, actually. At least I recently had a stay where price was modified after I made the reservation and that's the rate they tried to charge me.

In my case it was my existing reservation that was modified and I could see it on priorityclub.com under Upcoming Reservations - not sure whether the OP had a similar case or just that he/she checked what the rate would be if OP would have booked the room then.
