Qantas Frequent Flyer - Singapore Terminal Operation and JetStar

Was looking at ways to transit in Singapore with JetStar to do some mileage runs. No check-in luggage. But after the invistigation I found:

1>, No multi city tickets available unless you are in Singapore or any JetStar Asia transit place for more than 26 hours.
2>, No mobile check-in or automatic machine available
3>, You HAVE to PHYSICALLY present yourself at check-in counter in Singapore with jetStar Asia unless you arrive with Air France, KLM or Qantas on one through ticket. That means if you do a mileage run in Singapore with two seperate tickets you have to go through immigration and go to check-in counters and then go back to the terminal.
4>, Was trying to do one Bangkok-Singapore-Taipei run but no price was shown on JetStar website (though the through ticket is avaiable)

So, my question is why jetstar not to making use of the superb Singapore facility to make transfer more friendly? Even Air Asia is doing a wonderful job in Kuala Lumpur!

I think Singapore Airport Terminal Jetstar and Qantas are using is the only very few international airport in Southeast Asia and North Asia where departure and arrival in the same floor space. It could be much better for someone holding transit to get boarding pass and go direct to departure gate if one automatic check-in machine is available, and with hand luggage only. So you could fly from Bangkok in the morning and connect a flight to Kuala Lumpur two hours later without going through immigration. But jetstar is making transit impossible in Singapore if you could not book a through fare!

Any thoughts?

Because they are a low cost carrier, and transfers are too painful for them to manage.

Also the Qantas lounges no longer open until after 3pm (not that they cared too much about JQ anyway). Another slap in the face.

I have transferred to 3K several times on separate tickets without having to go through immigration. Hand luggage only of course.

Where did you collect the boarding pass?

Used to go straight to the boarding gate, though ISTR on the last occasion (Dec 2011) they had a presence at the transfer desks, which hadn't been the case previously.

Thanks for the information. I went back to jetstar website but could not find the information I saw any more.

I do see that jetstar want you to leave 3 hours of transit time if you purchase seperate ticket in jetstar Asia. But for multi-city ticket you have to allow 26 hours between each setor which I think is crazy.

I do remember seeing Jetstar having a presence at the transfer counters.

Yes i remember I saw it somewhere it says only AF, KL and Qf passengers can use it...Ah found it on Singapore Airport website:

If your connecting flight is on a budget airline
For passengers on Air France, KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines or Qantas Airways flights transferring onto Jetstar Asia, Jetstar International or Valuair flights, or vice versa, kindly proceed to Transfer C, Terminal 1 to check-in for your flight.

For passengers travelling on other flights connecting to other airlines as indicated below:

Jetstar Departure Check-In Hall, Terminal 1

I think that is where I got confused.

I'm bumping this thread rather than starting a new one. While 3K is a LCC I can't understand the logic of forcing passengers to visit a counter. Letting pax use their mobiles / home printers to get BP's would both save timw and effort for the customer, and money for the airline. But then again, the sole purpose for LCC's existens is to give passengers a hard time.

On an upcoming trip, transfering from KUL to SIN, I was forced to take a 4hr layover in KUL due to having to re-clear immigration to get my ancient paper BP. On the return however I'm wondering whether it's possible to get a BP for my evening flight from a manned counter dedicated for an earlier flight? The reason being that I want to explore the offerings of Changi Airport, for more than the <2 hours of the check-in deadline.

I tried the transfer desk for a 3K flight originating in SIN while coming in on CX. (separate tickets)

I was denied and sent outside to check in, despite no checked bags. I was told the transfer desk was for through JQ flights only, ie XXX-SIN-YYY on the same ticket. :td:
