I went to SFO last weekend and then had to fly back to SEA. I'd have to say that I had a great trip.
SFO Experience: My car wasn't assigned on the board and I had to go inside to update my profile. I originally booked a G37, as I now get Hertz Family Discount thanks to my sister, and it becomes extremely cheap. I didn't notice the rental agreement, I walk out and they give me a FX35. Definitely wasn't trying to drive an SUV from San Fran to Sacramento. So I go back inside, and after waiting in line for another 20 mins, the manager brings me back to the employees only area, and has me go around and look for any car that I wanted. There wasn't anything too special. They did have some 2013 Mustang GT's, but I wasn't going to cram 3 people in a Mustang. So I chose a 2012 MB E350. It was in the Gold Choice area so I knew it was going to have some miles. It had a lot at 23k, but the car wasn't in too bad of shape, so I took it.
The car ended up having expired tabs, which caused me to get pulled over. They then comped my fuel charge and 1 day of rental. They then gave me a $50 voucher. So I wasn't that mad about it. But expired tabs? Comeon.
SEA Experience: The new rental facility as VERY nice. They did a great job at SEA when designing it. You WILL have to walk quite a ways though as it is huge. It is no longer at the airport, and is now a mile or so away like most places. They sent me a mobile alert saying my C-Class was in stall 207. I went directly to the car and made my way out. It had a total of 463 miles on the odometer. Very easy and super efficient.
Conclusion: SFO needs to get there crap together. Probably like 7 out of the 15 times I have been there, they didn't have my name on the board, or didn't have the "reservable model" vehicle available. I will admit that they are very accommodating though and they have always been super nice. I always seem to end up happy even though they messed up in some way.
SEA has been one of my favorite locations. I have gotten to know the manager pretty well because she is always talking to people and finding out how there past rentals were. They ALWAYS have the car I want and I've never had an issue, except for a time that I booked a full-size 2 hours before and they didn't have it. Instead I had a BMW 328i waiting for me, so I wasn't disappointed. The staff is almost always friendly and you can really pick out the one's that aren't and just avoid them. The new rental facility is great! And it makes things super easy. Upgrades are always minimal and they usually have a pretty good selection of everything available. The Hertz Gold Choice is coming to this location in July as well.
