Hello everyone. We will be in bangkok with our 12 year old son the first week the Olympics are going on. Is this something that is usually televised?? If so, which stations usually carry it?? We are staying at the Anatara riverside, we have stayed at this property three times previously when it was the Marriott, looking forward to seeing it now.
Thanks for the help!

It may be a bit early to tell exactly what channels will carry which events. In the past, when Thai athletes/teams have been involved the events are broadcast live on free, over-the-air channels, with Thai commentary. As with Euro 2012, any local license holder (Trace?) may not allow cable/satellite providers to re-transmit OTA channels.
In 2008 many pubs/venues brought in Astro Supersport channels from Malaysia via satellite. Astro had multiple channels covering many/most/all (?) events.
I haven't followed the plans for Olympic coverage here as it is still a ways off and things can change here pretty quickly, but I think Trace Sport (Ch. 111 on Truevisions) may have the local rights for the 2012 Olympics. Whenever I click through Trace they always have Thai guys/gals chatting about football (soccer) in Thai.
I get all the TrueVisions channels, including 11 in HD, so will keep an eye out for potential coverage options.
You should probably plan for little available coverage, in Thai, at odd times of the day, in the best case.

Thanks! I was hoping you would respond. My wife and I met up with you several years ago while we were in bangkok!!! We will wait to see if anything else comes up about the coverage.

I haven't forgotten about this but I'm still not sure exactly which channel(s) might have Olympic coverage. TrueVisions, the leading cable/satellite provider are re-booting their systems tonight, and are adding ~ 5 more HD channels including ESPN HD and one possibly for the Olympics:
"TrueVisions said it would also broadcast London Olympics 2012 live in HD system plus Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound systems."
(this could refer to ESPN HD?)
The regional ESPN outlet shown here has been touting Olympics Coverage, and Trace Sports may have rights in some locales. Local Thai TV may also show some limited coverage, like when Thai athletes are competing, but that may just be available OTA.
There will also be satellite availability from nearby countries like Malaysia (Astro Supersports) and Viet-Nam.
So as you can see it's a bit of a muddle now but as we get closer to the opening ceremonies, or beyond, there may be more clarity.

It looks like they are going to live stream the olympics via youtube.

I finally got my new TrueVisions HD box today - I had been away to Cha Am for vacation and a bit busy since the cut-over to the new system on July 17.
Anyway, the following channels have Olympics coverage, except not sure about ESPN HD, CH. 136, which is currently showing a replay of MLB.
I expect the F1 qualifying/race (Hungary) to be on Star Sports, but this is a bit new...
TrueVisions Channels
105 ESPN 5 SD
106 ESPN 6 SD
108 ESPN SD
109 Star Sports SD
129 ESPN 4 HD
131 ESPN 3 HD
134 ESPN 1 HD
135 ESPN 2 HD
136 ESPN HD (showing MLB: BOS at NYY replay now)
161 ESPN 7 SD
edited to add:
Ch. 114 displays upcoming Olympic coverage for the above channels.
Ch. 3 Thai OTA is showing some Olympic coverage now, not sure if it overlaps with any from above, in Thai audio only
Ch. 11 (NBT) Thai OTA is showing some Olympic coverage now, not sure if it overlaps with any from above, in Thai audio only, not the same event as Ch. 3.
Unrelated to the Olympics but ASN is back on TrueVisions, Ch. 113, so I have the NFL again. ^ ^
