I have searched every week april-may 2013 for Chicago to Bali flights. Not 1 single flight shows under award availablity. I am using the BA website to search for availabilty and was looking to use AA miles for the booking. I can get plenty to hong kong but nothing with the extra leg to Bali... I can certainly find flights to book with cash on this route. I know the regional flight hkg-dps doesnt have 1st class cabin so is that the issue??
Is it not available for award bookings??Thanks

Don't know how the BA website works but since, as you know, there is no F cabin, you should probably look for J (U) availability for HKG-DPS-HKG?

I can find hong kong to dps and back just fine HOWEVER i dont want to pay extra miles! I want to pay the 67,500 AA miles so if i peice it out seperatley i will then have to pay additional miles.
Im going to mess around and just try buz class awards and see if that makes any difference. I dont think it will tho.

Still not sure what exactly your problem is? It seems that you can find ORD-HKG-ORD in F (Z) as well as HKG-DPS-HKG in J (U)? Even though I am not familiar with the AAdvantage, I am sure you can book the regional segment in J if F is not offered on a single F award. For your reference, however, since you are redeeming from AAdvantage the AA board is the better place to ask.

ok my problem is for 67,500 aa miles i can go ORD-HKG-DPS on one award. However i cannot find the route when looking for award bookings.
I CAN find ORD-HKG just fine but that is 67,500 miles as well. Which means I need to waste either more AA or BA miles to get from HKG to DPS.
FUNNY THING is I just checked JFK to DPS and right away i can find the award!!!! WHY would it not be avialable from ORD??? very strange!!!

Just call AA and book it. There will be no problem and it will be 67,500. BA's website will only show some options. For instance, it might not show you an option with a 6 hour connection. The connection is valid, but they will assume nobody wants it. However, if award space is open on ORD-HKG and HKG-DPS, you can book it for 67,500. Maybe the flight from JFK arrives at a time to make the connection to DPS more reasonable.
So stop worrying, call AA and book it.

Yeah as gwar69 suggested simply call AA to book if you can see those seats when searching separately. AFAIK you can't book award on CX on AA.com anyway so just call.

I echo this. I've done several CX F awards from ORD (& YYZ) - actually from CVG - to BKK via HKG. While I haven't gone to DPS, BKK has the same "problem". It sounds like your "problem" is that DPS is very lightly served by CX equipment with F (only certain flights on certain days). The ORD flight arrives in HKG rather "late" possibly after a flight that has F (or even any flight) to DPS has departed. And for the return, the ORD flight leaves fairly early (earlier than connections from some Asian cities arrive - certainly BKK). You may have to overnight in HKG (at your own expense) in order to catch the ORD flight(s).
However, your cost (in miles) through AA will be 67,500 one way (since that is the highest cabin that you have for any segment) - you won't have to add additional "cost" in miles for HKG-DPS if you are in J. If you are not in ORD, you can add AA flight to ORD with no additional charge actually.
