Very limited *A experience so apologies for the question in advance. I am trying to book a one-way intra Asia award but no dice. However the same award would be avialble were I to choose r/t instead. Would I be able to book a r/t, fly the outbound and then cancel the inbound and get my miles back for the inbound portion of the trip?

What dates / route are you looking at? Not sure why it wouldn't show up. Are you trying to add a stopover on the way?

USM-MNL. Available if I choose r/t for my dates but not o/w. Will I be able to refund the inbound after flying the outbound and get half of the miles back? What is UA's policy?
anyone knows if you can cancel the inbound portion of an award ticket after flying the outbound on a star alliance redemption using ua miles?

You could always just call in and get them to book a one-way reward ticket over the phone. That way you wouldn't lose the miles. I see availability nearly every day on that route over the next few months with a one-way search by the way - with connections in BKK, ICN, SIN, etc.

Multiple flights available on June 25, 26, 27, 29 and 30th for a one-way res. Again - you'll lose the remainder of your miles if you do what you propose.
