Swiss International Airlines - Cannot price business + economy on swiss.com

Hi all,

first post after quite some time spent reading the forum.
I am trying to book a flight JFK-MXP (or JFK-LUG) for 31AUG-9SEP on swiss.com. My goal would be to fly on P on the way to MXP or LUG and S (or any cheap economy) on the way back. Every time I try it, i get this: Unfortunately an error occurred while calculating the fare for your itinerary. May we kindly ask you to get in touch with our reservation center.

Tried to call call center and got the same story. I believe it's because a discounted P cannot be combined with a cheap economy but, strangely enough, if I try EWR-MXP with return to MXP-JFK in T it works. That is the only combination where it works....but it does not work for me: very tight connection in ZRH and cannot risk missing it.

To make it short: why a fare works on EWR-MXP but not on any other route I am trying?

Works for me when trying to book just that through the Swiss website (no problems until personal data step):
JFK-MXP P-class USD 1299
MXP-JFK T-class USD 536

Have you tried to click "continue" to have the ticket priced? I get to the point in which I can select the 536 return but after that, when I click continue, I don't get to the next page but back to the homepage...

Must be a mistake somewhere in the fares they loaded. I now also get "Unfortunately an error occurred while calculating the fare for your itinerary".
Only choosing the first choice EWR-MXP will get you a "valid" flight. Even when choosing both flights in P-class you can get errors.

Must be a mistake....

I guess so...Also because changing itinerary the P + S or T option works.
In any case, calling the call center the answer I get is: "well sir...if I cannot book it from my system, it's because it's not possible to combine the two fares". They do not consider the "mistake" option.

So, do you believe there's a way out or I will just fly Y, as the other 4 JFK-MXP flights I am taking this summer...:(

I think you have two options, book the EWR flight and try to change it within 24hrs by calling. That should work.

Or accept the EWR flight and if you miss the connection in ZRH take the next flight that arrives at 17:00.

Or even use a TA.

Have you tried booking on the LH website instead?

@RTW1: thanks. I cannot get there so late on Saturday, so that option doesn't work. Will consider the others!

I could also book S both ways and try to pay upgrade at the airport. I just wanted to sort it out.

I really wonder why you cannot book it by phone, must be something seriously wrong in the systems... Even both flights in P result in the same error, and that surely is a valid combination.

I don't see P on the return. However, I agree that there must be something wrong: I cannot book P + any of the return ticket: it doesn't work in Z, D and not even A. So the problem must be with the P on the NYC-Whaterver (MXP or LUG).

On the phone they just tell me that if it doesn't work, well...it means that it is not supposed to work. Not really usefull...
