Basically, under the auspices of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board, training targeted to over 1,000 started in February and has produced 700 drivers with a certification identity card; training includes first aid, taxi etiquette, basic English in customer service manners and emergency procedures. This project is linked to the local "Safe Taxi Program" (see more in English here (http://www.taxisafepv.com/main_en.php)).
This is part of Puerto Vallarta's attempts to keep PVR safe for tourists and bring it up to international standards of tourist convenience and safety.
