I am traveling to San Diego this summer, and going to take the kiddos to do the normal stuff, Zoo, Sea World, but was looking to use points for the stay

What's a nice property that has a good pool, nice, quiet and reasonably close to the attractions.

Moderators, I honestly, did do a search, but couldn't find anything, so please close/merge/ignore

We like this place, that's if you can get a good rate.

Not to far from the places you mention and also not far from LaJolla.

We recently stayed at the Hilton Torrey Pines. I admit it is rather far out but it meets all your other requirements and has a nice relaxed resort feel to it. Breakfast was very good, rooms nice and spacious (many with good views over the golf course), nice pool to. I found it to one of those properties more considerate and positive towards my Gold status. If you don't mind driving out there it's a lot more relaxed than the city centre hotels.

I like the Hilton resort right on on Mission Bay. Easy access to Sea World and the freeway for the Zoo. Closer to Legoland than downtown or Mission Valley Properties.

There is a brand new Hilton resort opening in Carlsbad on June 30th - directly across from South Carlsbad State Beach - one of the best beaches in San Diego (only beach that is nicer is in front of the Hotel Del because they rake the sand nightly).

There is a very nice Homewood Suites in Del Mar that is great for families and not too far from everything.

There are many threads in the travel section especially regarding what to do in San Diego with kids - including restaurants.

We probably will stay at the Homewood suites, the two rooms is very appealing and all we need is a pool

The mission bay resort is good for family, but it is not quiet at least at the pool. They do have the most amazing fireworks shows around 4th of July. You can see 5 or 6 firework shows going on at the same time from the bay. Seaworld is a few minutes away. It is about 15 min drive to San Diego.

The only thing that bugs me is that they do not have wireless internet in room. I think this is the only hotel that I have stayed at in the last 3 years that does not have wireless in room.

we just returned from a week at this homewood suites near point loma. i haven't had a chance to post on tripadvisor, but i highly recommend it. it's quiet in the sense that it's not a huge resort like the hilton mission bay. there were hardly any people in the pool when we used it. however, like many hotels, if you have the unfortunate luck to have kids upstairs jumping at all hours (like we did), you will be smart to bring earplugs, a noise machine or keep the bathroom fan on all night. but other than that, it's AWESOME. here's why:
1. kitchen w/full fridge, microwave, stovetop and dishwasher.
2. free breakfast AND dinner (dinner only mon-thurs) w/alcohol. LOL.
3. pool and outdoor grills. free wi-fi
4. location: right on water of harbor channel with a walking path alongside and a huge park and playground within walking distance. also within walking distance, "liberty station" which is a shopping district w/great restaurants, ace hardware (to pick up bonfire wood) vons and trader joe's!!!
5. attractions: easy drive to sea world (10 mins? and not in traffic!), downtown, old town, ocean beach. but it feels worlds away b/c you're not in the middle of all this traffic.

p.s. the employees were VERY nice about helping us move to another room b/c of the annoying kids upstairs. they even moved our luggage for us while we were out for the day!

Huh? It's in San Diego. San Diego stretches from Escondido to the border.

The following "cities" don't actually exist, they are neighborhoods in San Diego:
La Jolla
Rancho Bernardo
Scripps Ranch
San Ysidro
http://goo.gl/maps/hpZv Everything is pink is San Diego.

If you mean downtown, that should take about 7.

I mean the general area around Gaslamp Quarter. I remember it took about 15 minutes drive from the resort. I took Pacific Hwy instead of the 5.

If you are still considering, I would recommend the Hilton Bayfront. If this is the first time in San Diego, stay here (based on our experience). It is a stop on the old town trolley tours. If you are flying in, take a city bus from the airport to one of the stops on the old town trolley tours. I recommend Horton Plaza. Then board the old town trolley (with luggage) and enjoy the city right away. It drops you off at the Hilton with a great view, heated sea water pool with a hot tub as well, and next to the convention center, Gaslamp district, and the San Diego Padres stadium. It is great. We were upgraded to a corner room. The hotel is new and its location is hard to beat in my estimation. We took a bus up to La Jolla. I did not stay on points b/c I got a great deal of ~ 110 USD on Labor Day weekend. For us, the water on Coronado Beach was FREEZING, so don't expect it to be slightly warm, but it is worth going over to the Del. Questions, respond or PM me.

It is a great choice! I did a lot of research before our 2010 trip and we decided to stay there. Very convenient! We will be staying there again this fall when we go back..it is really nice to have the 2 rooms when traveling with kids...

Another recommendation for the Homewood Suites.
