So what is the deal with AMEX's new language? Has anyone spoken to or gotten info on what this new language means? Are cards now churnable as long as you haven't had the same rewards product type in the last 12 months? Or do you get locked out of that bonus again indefinitely?
Does this effectively mean you can get the Biz Gold card today for 75k points, canceling 6 months from now and then apply again 12 months after canceling?

Anyone know the rule on getting 2 AMEX cards at once? Thinking about signing up for this one (business card) and then I got an offer mailed to me for a personal card with 50k bonus points w/ 1k spend and no first year annual fee.
Will AMEX generally approve a personal and business card? Any strategies? Apply both back to back or wait a few days between apps?

Generally Yes, YMMV, I like to apply at the same time and hit the submit button at the same time. Many people have reported that it doesn't matter. Call me superstitious.

I currently have the Platinum Business CREDIT card. I would assume I still qualify since I have CREDIT and not charge card currently on the business side.
My credit card version has $0 annual fee and is no longer offered - I have had it for about 10 years.
It currently is branded on the web site as Business Membership Rewards® Card with a $75 / annual fee but when I login to my account it says "Platinum Business Credit Card". I have been grandfathered in.
Thoughts? Their wording specifically says "Platinum Card®" so I take that as they are specifically referring to their charge card which goes by that name.

I already have a Gold card on our business name and Federal tax ID and gave my social on the application, so I believe that I would not be able to apply again on my business name.
My question is, can I apply on my business name again using my husband's social and still qualify for the bonus points? Or, should I just have my husband apply as a sole proprietor using his social as both the business and personal ID?

I got in the mail yesterday a business Platinum card offer with similar spend requirement (10k) but 100k rewards bonus. Contemplating if I can actually get there on spend. I could do it if I charge my quarterly tax payments but those come with a hefty service charge so not sure it's worth pursuing.

Hmm. Does anyone have any experience with switching pending applications to a different card with Amex? Yesterday, I applied for both the SPG Personal and Business cards. The business one is pending because they said they can't do both the same day, and to call back in 5 days. I'm wondering if I can switch that application to this offer instead. If I end up transferring to SPG points, it's the same size bonus, but the points are more flexible. That SPG offer is more likely to still be there when I'm ready for another round of apps. Anyone ever done anything like this?
(Got wedding expenses coming up, so minimum spend won't be a problem.)

They said my risk score is too high.
There are several reasons listed
Short period of time been a customer with Amex (I had a personal gold last May, but cancel it at April)
Too many recent credit checks (1 last Dec. , 1 Jan., 2 April, 2 May. All are personal card except the Ink Bold applied at May)
Insufficient time in business (I fill that in my business is 1 year's old)
Revolving bank trad credit limit is too low (Experian) (I don't really know what that mean)
My FICO score is 729
Agree.

I spoke to them on the phone today. The one year bonus is from the time you were approved and received the card you already have. I have this same problem, but in reverse. I received the Platinum 100,000 offer yesterday and since I already have this Gold Amex Business card (I've had it since November 2011) I have to wait until then to be able to qualify.

@jeff – Good luck! I got approved today, so should get the card in a few days.

This a somewhat surprising interpretation. Thanks for posting it. I have the Business Gold now. I applied over a year ago but I still have it open. Agreed, I think the account would need to be closed for a year before you could qualify for another bonus, -and- the restriction applies to all OPEN charge cards, which means holding a Business Green, Gold or Platinum card should disqualify you from earning a bonus on all three.
If we assume parallel restrictions will be implemented for personal charge cards (Zync, Green, Gold, Platinum) it's going to require an entirely new calculus to earn periodic Membership Rewards bonuses.

That's exactly what I told the rep. on the phone. I told her she was either giving me inaccurate information or Amex had a very poorly worded sentence in the T&Cs. I told her that based on the literal wording, in order to ever qualify for this product I would have to close my current Gold Business card and stay off of it for a year, and I don't actually want to close the card. She told me she understood where I was coming from, but that the clause simply means that you can't have gotten the card within the past year. She actually got another department on the line to confirm when I had opened the account. Again, I'm just relaying what she told me, but I agree that the literal meaning on the T&C requires you to close the account, which makes absolutely no business sense for them. I think they simply screwed up the language. If it's been more than 12 months, I would just document the conversation very carefully, and even go the extra step of requiring a confirmation in writing once I have the account open before you go and spend so much money.

Amex today told me a different story, unfortunately. They said that while I could get the card and enjoy the benefits and points earning capabilities, I would not be eligible for the sign-up bonus. I'm still hoping your version is the correct one, but I would not rely purely on that rep. After you do your $10k spend, I think you'd have an uphill battle to get the points if they then start saying "no, we meant what we wrote; you can't have had the card for a year." I think my next attempt will be a secure message.

Stupid question here: Can I open the card in my business name and pay a personal expense and count this as a "distribution"? More specifically, we are getting ready to buy a house and I need to make a $10k down payment. Can I pay it with this card, knowing that the money would have to be taxed later? Is this the same as taking $10k out of your business, and then having to pay all applicable income taxes on the money?

I am going to send an SM to them as well about applying for myself/business again since my account is well over 12 months old and if I get the same response as bluto I am inclined to apply again. FYI, for those who have a Gold Card that they applied for more than 12 months ago and would like to participate in this current promo, I got my answer today from my Dad. He has a Gold Card for his business for a couple of years already. In March he received an offer to apply for a Gold Card and earn 10k bonus points after $1500 of spend. I don't know why he jumped on it (I hate to say this on my dad, but it was a stupid move - IMO - because now he his excluded from this current offer which is WAY better and he would have no problem meeting the spend), but he did and he applied using the exact same info as on his first card - same business name, Federal tax ID, personal name, and SS#. He got approved instantly, spent $1500 within the first month or two and the 10k bonus points have already posted to his account and both cards are linked to the same MR account.
I will not say this is a definite, but I'm pretty confident that for those people who already have a Gold Card and applied more than 12 months ago, you can keep that card open and apply again through this offer and still be eligible for the 75k points. This is also based on the responses other FT members have received from Amex which are along the same line. I for one am going to give it a shot.

"Thank you for your interest in the Business Gold Rewards Card® From American Express OPEN. We apologize that the offer you are looking for is not available at this time. Below is the current offer."
The "current offer" doesn't say what the bonus is, however, the language at the bottom says something about applying by June 24, 2012. I called to ask if it's still available and she was more than happy to give me the offer if I applied over the phone, but she wouldn't send me a link.
Anybody have a better link?
If not ... I guess I'll apply for the Chase Ink Business instead. I couldn't do both because of the high spends. If I apply for Ink can I also apply for two personal Chase cards?

You shouldn't be sitting on pins and needles. You should call the reconsideration line now and explain why you want to and think you should be approved. I did that for both my SPG and MB Platinum, and in the latter instance it turned that that although my application was still being considered at the time, the CSR was able to manually approve it. Yesterday I added 2 of the same family members as employee card holders, and today I attempted to add 2 more of the remaining family at the same time. Instead of the "approved" messages I used to get, I got a "you must call us in order for us to process this" type of message.
