Hilton HHonors - Hilton Doha

Hey there fellow FlyerTalkers.

Are there any reports from this hotel lately?
MissBumpMe! will soon bed down there temporarily during an extended layover.

P.S. Does the hotel run shuttle service from Doha Airport? The website says "call for courtesy bus" -- but I figured I'd ask the experts here first!

I stayed 2 nights at this property a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel looks and feels brand new, the lounge staff are charming and efficient (strangely enough the lounge dragon is Dutch!!!) and the EL offerings in the evening is quite tasty. As always the breakfast is better in the restaurant than in the lounge (no problem eating in the restaurant) but the view makes up for it.
I was put in a corner suite at the 22nd floor (that's the EL floor) which had a great panoramic view of the Gulf and the Corniche, you do get the beacon lights from the adjacent towers at night as you are higher than the other buildings, but hey, you can close the drapes.
The rooms are very well furnished with AUX, USB and HDMI ports for the home cinema located near the desk phone, a Nespresso machine and in my case a huge bathroom with both bath and shower.
The pool is a bit reminiscent of the ones in resorts like the ex-Cebu property on the Hilton Caribe as it is right near the hotel's private beach, you are literally at a stone's throw from the sea when in the pool.
I did not ask for the bus as taxis are cheap and I had never sampled the new Jetta VI (which are a nice change from Camrys/Altima normally in service in the ME)

Forgot to mention, regular Karwa taxi (turquoise thingies) is 50 QAR from the hairport (factor in that I estimate having been overcharged by 5 QAR or so), the Stilton wants 140 QAR for their Audi A4 "limousine".

Friends need a place to stay in Doha, and I am wondering about the Hilton. Earlier, the possibility of a shuttle was remarked on. Is there indeed a shuttle? and is it complimentary? How often does it run?

How is the location of the hotel? The view sounds stunning. Are there restaurants and shopping in walking distance?

It is within a walking distance, although nobody walks in Doha, to the city center mall. There are quite a few fast food outlets inside the mall. Renaissance & Courtyard hotels both have direct access to it. No idea about a hotel shuttle. The executive lounge is quite nice.

There are quite a few F&B outlets at the hotel including Trader Vics.

BTW I used the Points + cash option when I was staying there.

I am staying there at the moment. My expectations were not met by the gold upgrade I received to an "executive" room on a low floor overlooking a construction site rather than the sea view higher floor rooms which were also available at the time. On the positive side, the staff does try to be as service oriented a possible, and their attitude is very pleasant and responsive. Plenty of significant teething problems, though, mostly relating to housekeeping, but these are things that will be fixed with time. The lounge is great (on the 22nd floor, though executive rooms exist on all floors including the lowest floor as mentioned above). Alcoholic drinks are available for free during happy hour, which is I think from 6 to 8 pm. Food outlets also offer alcohol. Not sure if I would stay here again, but ymmv.
