I know there is a plan for free wifi at LAX sometime...but assuming its not up and running in the next few weeks, what free Wifi options do I have in terminal 5.

Is it possible to stand outside the premium lounge to check email briefly or does that require a password?

I'm coming in on an international connection (Virgin AU) and transferring to Delta (econ, no status).

Also is there anywhere that does a vegan salad in the terminal, like something with some vegan protein in it (chickpeas or something)?

you could try to stand outside the delta lounge- you'd stick out like a sore thumb though, as it's upstairs, with a small landing, with nothing else there- but i doubt you'd catch a signal (it's hard enough to snag the signal from inside the lounge!). you definitely won't catch a signal downstairs.

if you do get a signal, no password required- just sign in as guest.

Won't Verizon's 3G also work in Terminal 5?

The 16th of July is when T-Mobile will be turned off, from what I was reading yesterday the new company should be up and running by then with free wifi following a 30-45 second advertisment for 45 mins, or you can pay (unknown price) for longer.

T-Mobile data on your phone is almost useless at LAX, full signal, but it's just swamped with too many people.

Is this the same wifi vendor they are using at SFO? The whole ad thing was pretty buggy - it took me quite a few minutes to finally get my Dell laptop online. Took different browsers...

Same company, Advance Wireless Group LLC.

The City Council upheld the awarding of the contract as LAX did not go out to tender, but on a 2nd vote (later) approved it.

2 Year contract with option of a 3rd without Tender seems rather fishy to me, but hey it's LA :(
