View Full Version : Plat Business 100k w/ $10k spent

Just received this offer in the mail:
Business Platinum with 100,000 MR bonus points with $10k minimum spending by Nov 2.

It seems to be targeted but in a strange way. On the envelope it says:
[name of hospital] Physician
[address]

Now, I'm not a physician but I believe the previous resident was. There is an RSVP code but no name anywhere. Now my question is what Amex would check this RSVP code against if I applied? Would I be able to get the card given that this is my address?

I also need to provide a business name. I have read that selling some stuff on ebay/amazon might be enough, what experience have others made with getting the Plat Business card? I would love to get these 100k points even though $10k is a fair bit of spending.

If you get this make sure to keep a copy of the paper. I got this in march and annoyingly Amex wasn't going to honor it until I faxed the application to them. In the end I got the 100k.

just out of curiosity, what was their excuse for not honoring it?

In my experience, these offers are all targeted and the RSVP code will be tied to a specific individual. From what you've said, you're not that individual and the offer isn't for you. Toss it. Better yet, shred it.

Or call AMEX, explain the situation and ask if they'll give you the card. Couldn't hurt and it's an honest way of trying to get the deal.

But is it still tied to an individual if there is no name on the invite?

Even though there is no name printed on the letter there probably is a list of eligible names in the American Express database. These types of occupation or employer based offers are not unusual. Does the letter itself mention the name of the hospital, or only the envelope?

I was wondering the same thing. My personal Platinum comes up for renewal this fall again.

My dad just received (he keeps receiving them, I never do) the 100K business platinum offer so I was thinking of signing up with his RSVP code and then canceling my personal.

It is improbable that you will be able to apply using an offer in your father's name. He could apply and allow you to use the account, but it's expensive to add a supplementary Platinum card to a Business account.

It's only on the envelope. The application form only has an RSVP code printed on it, no reference to the employer.

I also don't understand why hospital doctors would be targeted for a Business Plat rather than the personal one.

Doctors who work in hospitals typically also have practices (businesses) outside the hospital.

There are two easy ways to determine if you can get the 100K.

1) Call AMEX and ask.

2) Go to the AMEX website listed in the invite and enter the RSVP code. See if a name appears in the, presumably, pre-populated form. If yes then no; if no then maybe.

By the way, even if you manage to sign up and get approved for the card, the 100K is still targeted to someone else and you may not get the MRs.

I've done this. It works. I have posted it a couple times on FT but I forget where. Basically, I found in my mailbox an invitation from Amex to the previous occupant's business like the OP. I put in the RSVP online, filled out my name and info, was approved, got the points. It was all automatic. I never lobbied for the points. This was for an Amex Biz Gold but I don't see any reason why the Plat doesn't work.

What are you doing opening other ppl's mail??? Isn't it a federal crime to open another person's mail if caught? Especially when it is for a credit card application...

Got one, too. While it does populate the fields, they're still changeable.

What's disturbing is that the T&Cs on the web site say that the offer is 25k points after $5k spend, rather than what was written on the invitation. This sort of error would certainly explain why some people get credited for the wrong amount. Wonder if it's safe to ignore that I'm agreeing to the wrong terms as long as I keep the paper.

Just got the 100K/$10K offer in the mail too. Offer was addressed to my company but no name on envelope. Coincidentally, I had just spoken to AMEX about a 75K/$5K Gold Open offer that I am thinking about; asked them about any 100K Plat offers out there, they said "nope." Two days later I get the offer.

Was previously told by AMEX rep that you can't get two bonus' from similar type cards (eg, personal Gold and personal Plat) but could get them for different products (eg, personal Gold and business Plat). Not sure if Open Gold and Business Plat are considered different products but I may have wife apply for Plat (she's a co-owner of the business) and apply for Open Gold myself.

I also got (same mail delivery) an offer for the AMEX SimplyCash Business Platinum card. Basic cash-back card, not too interesting.

Decision, decisions; it was so much easier when no one liked me!;)

I got a Business Platinum 100k offer, too. I put in the RSVP code and noticed also that the Terms and Conditions say 25k/$5k spend. I did not complete the application. I called Amex and asked the agent what she saw when she input the RSVP code. She said 100k points. I don't think I am going to submit it online. The 25k T&C error worries me. It looks like some people had problems with the previous 75k Business Gold offer and had a hell of a time trying to get their points. I don't want to invite that problem by agreeing to 25k terms.

I will probably mail in the app or apply by phone. I am not too excited by either prospect, since errors could occur there too. Maybe if we all secure message them and let them know that there is an error in the T&Cs on the targeted 100k offer, then they might fix it.

Also got a letter from my slow mail offering 100k mr points to my company and without my name. Interestingly, they asked for both my ssi and ein. I was luckedly improved immediately. Now need to spend 10k and some of my vendors do not take american express. Oh well.

... asked for both my ssi and ein.

This is standard for all USA business card applications. The accounts are based on your personal credit, and you personally guarantee the debt the same as a personal card, but the issuer also has a claim on the company's assets.

I received this too! Mine says 100k points when you spend $5k by november 12,2012.

Is there any way around the annual fee? I remember there was talk of codes somewhere? I can't remember.

I can spend the $5k (with a little help from Amazon :D) but the huge annual fee makes it not worthwhile for me.

...the huge annual fee makes it not worthwhile for me.

 The fee is tiny. 100,000 points are worth $1,000 if redeemed for merchant giftcards, $2,000+ if converted to airline miles. In calendar year 2012 you will qualify for a $200 airline fee reimbursement (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-express-membership-rewards/1183013-platinum-200-airline-credit-strategy-read-message-1-before-posting.html). In calender year 2013 you will qualify for another $200 airline fee reimbursement. You will also qualify for a $100 Global Entry fee reimbursement (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-express-membership-rewards/1200864-new-centurion-platinum-benefit-global-entry-fee-refund-usa.html).

You will also be able to enter lounges operated by AA and DL when flying those airlines, lounges operated by US when flying any airline, 600 additional lounges through Priority Pass Select.

Is this international travel you speak of? or domestic?

If it's international travel, then yes, it'd totally be worth it! I couldn't find a link that showed me what I could redeem these points for.
I found this (http://amexpoints.americanexpress.com/?mrexc=93820pr0311bamrmr)

Do you know where I could find a detailed list of what I could redeem these points for? Also a list of airlines that I could use these points for, would be much appreciated!

I received the 100k with 5k spent invitation. The letter is addressed to me but I don't own a business. When I use the code to log on, evidently, the business I'm "assigned" is called Chinese Buffet. Are they just making up business name now and hoping that we will play our side of the game? Should I just go with it and apply?

Might be better to insert your own name as a sole proprietorship. If you need an EIN, you can get one in short order at IRS.gov. Save the paper in a file they say for future reference...you might need the start date of that number for example.

I keep getting targeted offers from Amex for the Business Platinum Card. The offer is 100K MR points after $10K in spend. The time limit for the spend is always based on an end date rather than elapsed time. The latest offer I got was to spend $10K by Nov 30.

Here's the potentially interesting part:
The offers are all addressed to a business that I don't maintain anymore and my name is nowhere to be seen. In March, I used one of the offers to apply, but I applied with a different business name altogether. I was approved and I got the 100K points.

So, it seems possible that anyone can use this offer unless Amex has the offer pegged to my address (which is certainly possible). Anyway, does anyone want to give it a try? For the first person who responds "yes", I'll PM the offer URL and RSVP code. In return, simply let us know if it worked and if you get 100K MR points.

UPDATE: via PM I've already given out the code. We will report back in this thread whether it worked

I just got this in the mail also, addressed to a business that hasn't existed here for at least the past 5 years, if ever.

There is a term that the bonus is not available to people who have had a Business Gold card within the past 12 months? Does anyone have experience of whether or not this is enforced, and whether using a different business name would avoid this limitation?

Thanks.

Typically new account bonuses post shortly after you pass the spending threshold. Remember that the annual fee is not spending.

Hello, folks. So, I posted the other day (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milesbuzz/1377290-targeted-american-express-open-business-gold-75-000-points-after-5-000-spend.html) about how my boss had received a targeted offer for an Amex Gold Business Open with 75k after 5k spend in 6 months.

Today I checked the mail and there was another offer: Amex Platinum Business Open with 100k Membership Rewards points after 10k spend in 4 months.

After ascertaining that my boss had no interest in either offer (I told him he should go for one of them, but he really didn't want to!) I asked if he'd mind if I applied for one of them, and he said he wouldn't mind.

From the other thread I have the impression that Amex Business RSVP codes are unique but transferable: They can only be used once, but anyone can use them.

I'm wondering if I should apply for either of these offers. The 100k is especially tempting, though that 10k spend would mean probably curtailing an upcoming app-o-rama. The thing is, the only 'business' I have consists of me occasionally selling stuff on ebay, which I've been doing for about 10 years. Do I have a chance in hell of getting either card? Any advice/suggestions/experiences/links to appropriate threads would be most welcome. Thanks so much for your help!

Edited to add: I have no business cards at this time, though I have held a AAdvantage business card in the past. My recent hard pulls:

1 in Feb, Chase
2 in May, Amex
1 in June, Citi
1 in July, Chase
