Hyatt Gold Passport - How do points suite upgrades work?

I'm intrigued by points upgrades. Do the property get financially compensated by headquarters or do they just have to wear it?

I mean do the property just look at you as having a freebie upgrade or by defacto having spent more money with them?

I don't know about suite upgrades but rarely I have seen the price a hotel charges GP for an award stay. The amount varies significantly - depending on hotel vacancy I have read. But the price at a resort has been as low as $34 a day.
I would assume that suite upgrades are the same but I don't know.
