Club Carlson - Problems with cancellation and CC customer service

So this isn't an actual review of the Fresno, CA Location but my experiance with there booking.

I booked a room for a few weeks ago and one again for tomorrow. I had an emergency come up on the day that i was to check in, lets just say i was on the road, about 8 hours away from fresno. According to the hotel policy, you can cancel free of charge up until 6pm the day of the stay. My father, brother, and I were all supposed to be staying that night, so we had 3 reservations. My brother called the hotel directly to try and cancel the reservations but he claims that they were having computer issues when he called. At that time i decided to call the Club Carlson main phone number, (888)-288-8889, to take care of the cancelations. I called and spoke with a customer service rep, she was very kind and gladly took care of everything, or so i thought. At the time i decided to cancel my future bookings also.
I checked my credit card statement today and i am being billed for 3 nights and the two bookings that i made for a few weeks ahead are still on the club carlson website!

So I called today, the same 888 number, was treated like a criminal. I asked her to look up the accounts and it wasn't even worth her time of day. The lady pretty much gave me a lecture on how i never contacted anyone. I asked if there was anyone else i could talk to and she said No, she wouldn't even cancel my booking for tomorrow!

Does anyone have any advice on how i can avoid getting charged over $600 for these bookings?

What I see in your post is a problem you had with the Club Carlson phone service. Why are you flaming the particular hotel?

I stayed at the hotel and had wonderful service.

It is unfortunate that you had problems with the Club Carlson central line, but it sure sounds like they are the problem, not this particular hotel. Since it was the Club Carlson central number which initially took care of your cancellations, you will unfortunately probably have to contact them again and give them the cancellation numbers you were issued so they can straighten it all out. I hope you get your first friendly operator rather than the second less friendly one.

Sgarcia421, if you assumed all would be taken care of w/o getting cancelation numbers, the error is your fault.
(even though CC said they'd take care of everything as one can't count on promises made by ANY travel/lodging provider, it is imprerative to note who you spoke with (many agents have an operator ID in addition to their name), time, the promise made, cancelation number(s))

Regardless of how your first stays end up, I suggest you go online and cancel the stays.

It takes less than a minute and you get a confirmation e-mail right away!!

+1. Never cancel a reservation over the phone if you can do it online.

Allow me to edit the thread title to reflect that this is not an issue with any particular property.

If you do, always obtain a cancellation number before you hang up !

I had a situation where I forgot about a stay at the Radisson BLU Amsterdam Airport hotel.. I made another booking at the PP instead.. and only realised it after I had gone to the PP and it was past 4pm. I called to the reception and explained that I am a klutz and that I had gone to the PP instead. The lady was understanding and offered to cancel without penalty and I waited for her to give me the cancellation number before I hung up.

Without it, you really don't have a leg to stand on.
