Hi there
I'm a Canadian but am planning to travel to Houston. I like to take advantage of the bonus Aeroplan points promotion but wonder if I could purchase the travel card in US$ instead of C$ and still be able to qualify for the bonus Aeroplan points.
Would appreciate your help.

To the best of my recollection the answer is no. But I would be happy to be proven wrong. I believe you have to purchase the Travelcard in CDN$ to get the bonus Aeroplan miles.
You can use CDN$ denominated Travelcards in the USA. You may lose a couple of points on the currency conversion, but it is the same couple of points that you would lose purchasing a US$ Travelcard with a Canadian issued credit card.
You should be able to verify this by going through the purchase process but stopping before you hit the "Submit" button. On the last page before you complete the Travelcard purchase it will tell you whether you are eligible for the bonus AP miles.

I have actually found the exchange rate to be quite favourable compared to what you'd pay at the bank or via credit card. I always buy travel cards in C$ and then use in whatever currency.

Thank you for your advise. I have a US$ visa and always use this to book travel expenses as it allows me to cancel a reservation, etc. without having to deal with exchange rate diff. I just buy some Us$ whenever I see a favorable exchange rate available and save it or future use.
