Hi!
Does anyone know if I am lucky enough to catch a refurbished 747 when flying between AMS and BKK on the 28 of June?
I have read that they should be finished with their refurbishing program in May, but that they might be a bit late...

I'm flying that route a couple days later so I keep watching flightdata 24. For the past couple of weeks, CI66 has mostly had a refurbished 747. With some exceptions (or are B-18201/202 refurbished by now?).

I'm on the retrun leg, BKK_AMS on Wednesday morning (02.30) so hoping for comfy seats upstairs. Anyone know why you can't pre-book seats on a KL ticket ?

Not allowed on CI website if you are on codeshare. You need to assign seats on KL website. You can call if you have CI's 6 digits booking code and see what they can do for you.
The last aircraft is now in the hanger so you wouldn't see 120 deg old seats running around. However the 4 aircraft that did not enter refurbish mode will still be around with AVOD that may crash from time to time and less recline.

If you do pre-check in 24 hours ahead you can attempt to change seats then on CI's website.

Turned out that I couldn;t access OLCI either on CI's or KLM's website, but the FB helpdesk could and kindly got me 2 adjacent seats upstairs.
They were the new refurbished ones, but still far from true lie flat with no support below the knees, and excruciating after 11.45 hours of trying to get comfortable.
Fair service though, it has to be said.

you cant change facts this airline is consistantly in trouble, they keep flying when other airlines ground flights for safety so they simply ask for trouble. Just a few weeks ago yet another incident of plane running off runway at Taipei
Here is many of so many articles you can find on CI failing to meet basic safety standards and they still keep getting away with it http://www.relax.com.sg/relax/news/571972/In_flight_engine_problems_on_some_China_Airlines_j ets.html

Are you sure? That article says that a problem occurred outside of ordinary operating bounds, and that China Airlines took measures to address this issue. If anything, the article is contrary to your point.

Fighter pilots in the Taiwanese Airforce are guaranteed a job at the airline after they leave the airforce. Sometimes they forget their are not flying a F15 anymore
